Well from all that we hear and what we have seen at training, it's fair to assume we'll have a very different outfit down back this season.

Bowden Thursfield Mcguane
Mcmahon Schulz/Tuck Morton/Rance

King
Raines
Newman
Polo
Moore
Casserley
JON

I don't mind it personally, some good users of the pill which can only be a good thing. Bit of depth aswell by the look of it.

Defense should be almost a 2nd midfield contest - if you lose the clearance your defense should be able to stand a good chance of winning the football back and turning defense into attack as quickly as possible.

To do that well you need a good mix of ball winning defenders and good ball users, because you seldom get both in the one package. We're starting to put that mix together.

As much as our defense could use a new mix of players, we also need to ensure our midfielders do their utmost to NEVER let the opposition bring the ball into our defensive 50 with no pressure on them. If that happens too often, it doesn't matter how good your defenders are, you'll lose more than you win.

Doubt whether Rance will go straight in, but will definately be given an opportunity to find his feet in HBF role.

What we must understand though is this is a very immature and raw backline. There are still going to be some large numbers kicked against them some weeks.

Blokes like Rance, Schulz, McGuane and even Bowden will have some rough weeks. I think in 12 months, this lot can be bloody damaging to oppoisition forwards and even more damaging going the other way :thumbsu:

Don't worry about in a years time. It will be straight from the get go. These guys are professional footballers and will contribute week in week out in 08. We just need that extra tall to top things off back there.

Only major injurys will make our backline struggle this year

After studying numerous articles and training reports I think the Richmond team will line up like this in round 1.

B. Bowden, Rance, Thursfield, McMahon, McGuane
HB. Morton, Tuck, Schulz, Raines, Newman, Connors
C. Foley
HF. Richo
F. Brown, Polak, Deledio
R. Simmonds, Tambling

Plenty of drive from the backline and a very open forward half

Maybe: King, Thursfield, Morton
Mcmahon, Schultz, Bowden.
Can't see Kingy coming out of backline yet. I can't work out the tuck thing yet (ie: start on bench first etc). We do appear to have more run and carry though with the options you have named. Be interesting.
