New Race - Time Trial

i wonder why the vrc or someone doesn't start up a special race day where they invite, say 20, of best milers in australia to compete in a time trial race - to see which horse is the fastest over 1600m on their own ability - without getting cover, etc.

would other people be interested in this - i know i would.

Yeah I would a little. Surely it would favour the natural go forward horses, but would be interesting to see. Also I'm not sure how reliable betting on it would be, because it would be bloody tough for the jockeys to work out.

I don't think horse racing needs to panic too much, but cricket has shown the advantages you can get with trying something new in Twenty20.
