Heading to the Big Apple for the first time in August and just starting to plan some of my sight seeing. Any suggestions from those folk more travelled than me? Interested if anyone bought one of those bus passes that includes entry to a heap of attractions. Was it worth the price? Any tips welcome.

I am still here so feel fere to ask specific question. Re the bus with multiple stopoffs - depends how long you are here for, and if you have been here before.

Happy to help in any way i can.

Thanks - hows the weather?

I'm in town (with wife) for seven nights. The bus deals are all time tight - 2 or 3 days and I am thinking I'd be better spacing things out a little. Not sure I want to do so much in three days. Think of me as the fair dinkum first time visitor and you will probably guess the things we want to see. Museums (inside) are low on the list - more the areas, tourist attractions etc.

so i guess you will be staying in midtown.

Weather will be hot and muggy - at the moment it is averaging about 27.

Do the circle line boat tour on th efirst or second day you are here - it will give you so much info it could well help youi decide what else you want to do.

The hop on and off bus tour is ok - you are given info at each stop. But if you are a little bit more prepared to do your own thing a 7 day subway and bus pass costs $29 - just about the best deal in the city. Togrther with a copy of lonely planet you will be able to see heaps. Trains run every 5 mins 24 hours a day.

Here are two tips for things to do. 235 Fifth ave has a bar on the roof called 235th. Get there just before dusk and if you stay for only one drink (beer $9) you can watch the surrounding buildings light up as the sun sets - its only a few blocks from Empire State, so the view orf that lit up is great.

For some great value clothes shopping take her ( and yourself) to Burlington Coat Factory ( don't let the name fool you they sell much more than coats)

It's near the conr of 23rd street and 6th ave. I find it much easier than century 21 which most people talk about - and is also good but can be overwhelming.

Are you a seinfeld fan? if so do the seinfeld reality tour - its great.
If you specific questions ask me. everything i have mentioned here cam be googled.

Thanks. I'm tossing up the real tourist questions like Top of Rock Vs Empire State Bldng. IM staying at Residence Inn the Marriot just near Times Square. We have the obvious things down like Macys, Central Park, Rockerfeller Cntre, Times Square, Broadway at night.
