I'm liking Newy as a midfielder, cool customer, stands up under pressure and delivers well...is REAL value to the side now that he has stepped from his apprenticeship as a BP. Has grown another leg since assuming a DVC role in the side and would appear as the likely choice as next skipper. a bit like what we hoped for Cogs before fate had it that a couple of wretched knees would stand in the way...Keep up the good work Newy, I like it:thumbsu:

Couldn't agree more Bo, he is my love child and with good reason this season...everytime he gets the ball in his hand you just know something good is going to happen. Skipper in 09 no doubt.

Wheres Wally............when you need his input:D

KJ might be a bit hard to push from skipper if he keeps his current form up.

Lets not rule out Cogs just yet he still has a spot in the team for mine and he is my favourite player before the injury and thought every thing he did was gold. Remember Cogs having a tussle with Buckley one Friday night he is such a strong bodied player lets hope his body can stand up this time. Also that time we came back Vs. Hawthorn and Stafford elbowed Everitt he was amazing!!!!

Anyway onto Newy he is brilliant. I think if he ever gets it within 60 right infront he must have the license to shoot as it is such a motivating goal from outside 50. He did it Vs. Collingwood and we had a short run where we kick 6 in 20 minutes. Something to look out for just before the end of the warm-up when we huddle look for Newy to unleish an almighty torp to the middle of the ground its good to see he can do it.

OK, newy Great but what is BP, DVC and who is cogs????????????

Nah just kidding ( about the coGs thing )

Best thing about Newman as a midfielder is that he gets forward and kicks goals too. We have been lacking Mids that can do that but we are finally starting to assemble a bunch that can do that :thumbsu:

I'm pretty nervous about Cogs return, i hope he's got some quality years left in him. I'd love him to finish the year off well and be made captain............but i doubt it. Johnson's been giving his all (baring his off field incident) and deserves to be captain, he's not appreciated as a hard footballer by most supporters but i think he shows a lot of courage. Newy has great poise and skills and will be a leader for years to come, but i don't think we need to kill Cogs off quite yet.

How much time did newy spend in the middle against Freo? It was hard to tell on tv

Very little - about the same sort of timespans we've rotated Pettifer through the centre. He played off half back and spent a bit of time on the wing...but hey, he kicked a goal from outside 50 and that's enough for him to magically graduate to being an exact replica of our best inside clearance midfielder this century. ;)

We are so lucky to have him!

Such insight!

I think I was alittle misunderstood in this thread, I wasnt potting Cogs, it was more about Newy stepping into the role that Cogs occupied only a few seasons back, as in the skipper in waiting, an emrging leader et al. I wish cogs all the best and look forward to seeing him get a month under his belt at Coburg

That's fair enough Bo, I thought you meant positionally, as in taking his role in the centre. :thumbsu:
