Listening to Voss calling us the "next powerhouse" has me a little excited and a little concerned at the same time.

He did have a grin on his face when he said it, so I'm a little less convinced he actually means it. I think he's trying to set us up for a big fall this weekend. He really needs a win and talking up the team he is playing this weekend is obviously a ploy on his behalf.

As a Melbourne member and supporter for my whole 36 years of life, i have the right to feel really excited about this group of players coming through. I've seen no success at all following this club, so getting excited amongst all the hype surrounding us at the moment feels pretty darn good. Being married now and having my first child earlier this year, the one thing left in my life i really want to do or see, is the MFC winning a premiership.

However, to call us the next powerhouse is very premature. We as supporters can certainly buy into it as it's what we want to hear. But i truly hope all this hype and talk isn't seeping into the players and coaches heads. We couldn't win a flag with 12 teams in the comp(post '64), we couldn't win a flag with 16 teams in the comp, and now there will be 18 teams vying to win a premiership. It ain't just gonna happen.

Kangas, Blues, Bombers, Dockers, Eagles, Crows, Gold Coast and West Sydney will all claim to have as good a young list as us in the coming years. And don't forget the top 4 or 5 at the moment could lay claims to having a list that could see them compete for another 4-5 years in finals. Winning a premiership is bloody tough as we know, you need a lot of skill but also a lot of luck. Being labelled the next powerhouse on the back of a big win against an out of sorts Sydney is a bit rediculous in reality. Don't get me wrong, I'm revelling in the excitement, but as a club we cannot just expect it to happen, but damn it's gonna be an exciting finding out...

In regards to the Kangas, Bombers, Eagles, etc.

I think that the Kangas and Richmond are both placed to have
great sides like ours in the future.

Im not sold on the Eagles drafting the right players.

Essendon, clearly wont win a flag in the next 10 years.

Freo, whilst they have a great mix atm and look to have a future,
their progress will be put on hold - or back - when Pav and Sandilands
end their career and I dont think theyll win a flag before that time.

North Melbourne have definately drafted the right players.
When Harvey retires, someone will need to step up and I think they will.

GC and West Sydney obviously will be thereabouts, their sides are set
up for them to win flags.

I do think they we will be better than all those sides in the future,
we look to have really drafted well in the past few years.
Our mix of player is unique and will be hard to play against in the future.

Voss was a very good footballer but is proving to be quite the opposite as a coach. His comments re: “powerhouse” are an obvious attempt to lull us into a false sense of security. He tries to play mind games with the opposition every week.

There's also the chance we could smack him in the face and say "yes, we are, whilst you are falling to shit."

This game is honestly too hard to call for me, just going to wait to see what happens on Saturday.

I Hate Essendon but thats a silly thing to even whisper. 10 years is a very long time.

I don't even want to think about it yet. Let's finish this season with two more wins at least and push for finals action next year, then we will see how we go.

Not really.

Can anyone see Essendon winning a flag in the next 3 years? I cant.

After those 3 years, Melbourne, North, Richmond, WC will be all far
better placed, then comes the GC and Syd in years to follow.

Essendons wont win a flag in the next decade, mainly because they
need to bottom out now - and they are unable to, they are the side
that is going to be hurt most during the introduction for the new sides.

I watched the Melbourne/Sydney game, and on the couch with Dean Bailey the other night and... All I could do was smile. Pretty excited right now but, rather scared at the same time. All these people crediting us from every angle is good but, we need to follow through lol.

I've seen us play some pretty bad footy, and I've seen us play some excellent footy (like the past weekend) but... need to be consistant, and that scares me. Can we do it? Nervous lol.
