While we are talking on a b/ball board and there is no threads for other American sports, do any of you have any other favourite pro teams?

Personally, I follow the Packers (NFC), and the Jets (AFC) in the NFL, the Pack because they play in Australia's sporting colours, and the Jets because I was a Newtown Jets fan in the NSW Rugby League before they folded.

In baseball, I'm a Braves fan, mainly because their fortunes closely mirrored North Melbournes, a struggling club at one stage and then had a great run through the middle/ late 90's. Pity they didn't win another couple of World series. Also barrack for anyone that can beat the bloody Yankees.

Also a Jeff Gordon fan in NASCAR and Michael Andretti in CART.

Don't have a lot of interest in the NHL, but have a look for Red Wings results and watch a game or two of their's on ESPN.

What about anybody else?

I'm full on into baseball, dont follow anyone in particular but spend about 2 hours a day studying the box scores and match reports.

Hyperbaseball.com is an excellent forum board for anyone thats interested.

Never understood baseball. Its supposed to be the great american sport and all that but christ it is boring.

Im an Andretti fan also in CART, i like CART tonnes more than F1. F1 is annoying because you know only four men are going to win the race, either the Ferrari drivers or the McLaren drivers. F1 isnt about skill its about the car you drive. Look at Villinueve, he won a championship while driving for the right team and car, now he races in a crap car and he cant win a race.

CART on the other hand is great, anyone can win cos the cars are better matched and there are more crashes, more overtaking moves, just more exciting.

Out of all the US sports, I love the NFL the most. My favourite team is Tampa Bay. I also used to like the 49ers because my all time favourite player Jerry Rice used to play for them but now he is playing for the Raiders. I also used liked the Jets in the AFC because my current day favourite player Keyshawn Johnson use to play for them but he is now playing for my team Tampa Bay which I'm very happy about. Tampa Bay have signed a couple of big name recruits over the offseason so hopefully they should be a good chance to get to the SuperBowl this season.

The NBA is my second favourite US sport and as you probably know I love the Lakers.

I do follow the baseball but I not a super huge fan. My favourite team is the Yankees probably the greatest sporting team in the history of sports. I just love their history and tradition and I would love to go and see a game at Yankee Staduim one day. My favourite Yankee players are Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams and Orlando Hernandez who is better known by his nickname of El Duque.

hmm.. tried to watch a bit of baseball and american football.. but it just didnt stick...

i like playing nfl on computer... but watching it.. err... pass....

baseball.... again, not really into it....
how bout that jap player that lead all in all star ballotting?
pretty incredible how a player like that (esp being japanese) is dominating the US game like that...

I probably followed baseball before I was into any other US sports, have been a Toronto Blue Jays fan since the back-to-back titles in 1992-93. Blokes like Alomar, Olerud, Cone and Joe Carter (his series winning home run in '93 is one of my fave sporting moments) who have all moved on were part of the team. After a good start this season they dropped back to third in the AL East, about 12 and a half games off top.
I always watched the NFL Superbowl but only took a team interest after the Minnesota Vikings made the NFC finals a few seasons ago. Last season i took the time to study the game a bit (with the help of foxtel), so i have a real interest in it now. Unfortunately guys like Robert Smith and John Randle have retired in the off-season, so Culpepper and Moss have gotta keep improving especially with a rookie running back in Michael Bennet stepping into offence. Should perform well again though this season, hopefully.
NHL i've never really followed, Toronto Maple Leafs for the sake of having a team.
As for racing i'm a Formula 1 fan through and through, only CART race i really watch is the Gold Coast GP.

That was news to me OutKast. I didn't reliese that Robert Smith had retired. Mid way through last season he had about a 6 week period were he was just dominating. He was probably the most dangerous offensive player in the league during that period. He did suffer with a lot of injuries towards the end of the season which did slow him down a lot.

As far as John Randle goes, I know he hasn't retired. He will actually be playing for Seattle this season.

The Viking will still be ok this season they still have 2 great wide receivers in Moss and Carter and Daunte Culpepper is just an awesome QB nobody that big should be allowed to be that quick and mobile. The only problem will be their defense I not sure if that will improve or not this season. The Vikings defense is probably the reason the Vikings didn't win the Super Bowl last year. Anyway the Vikings should end 2nd in the NFC Central behind the mighty Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

I wasn't sure if Randle had retired or moved on so thanks for clearing that up carb, but yeah unfortunately Smith has retired so that's gonna be a big loss.
As for this season agreed it's still the defence that will let the team down, they were way down in the defence rankings last season and did nothing to improve in the post-season... if anything may be weaker this season with the loss of Randle.
But as long as we score more points than concede, hopefully Cris Carter's farewell season will be a good one.:)
Buccs will be the danger though, looks like this could be the season for Tampa Bay.
