Has anyone Picked This Up Yet? Currently $64 at JB HIFI and $70 at EB Games.

Love my NHL games but 15 lacked features which have all been restored, And at those prices ill pick it up sometime over the weekend!

Go Ducks!

I got it.

It seems all the effort went into features, and not much into gameplay. The features have returned but the gameplay is basically the same. That's not a huge problem as I liked the gameplay. But there are still lingering issues.

The main one being there is very little differentiation between teams and players. For example, Crosby's speed is rated at 90, while my slowest player is at 83. C'mon. I will spend a couple of days editing rosters to try and bring out some differentiation.

Scored 22 against Calgary on rookie
Conceded 11 against the sharks when i moved to Pro
Used some sliders from OS and played out a 1-0 loss

Trying to find the right Balance of Play, Fun ****ing game thats for sure really enjoying it

My comments on Be A Pro mode:

It's great that they brought back proper 20 minute mode with simming. However it really needs a lot of work to get some realism.

Definitely need to tweak the Be a Pro sliders or something. Way to many goals are scored and conceded whilst you are on the ice.

My line are the top three scorers in the league by a fair way. However, we all have +/- ratings near 0 because you always concede a lot whilst on the ice. This seems to generally be the case with mates I've asked

It feels as if the Be a Pro gameplay for 20 minute games, of which you only play a fraction, is no different to standard team games where you could play say 5 minute periods. Overall, there is the same amount of real time played by you, and the same amount of goals are generally scored and conceded, except in Be A Pro this is only accounting for a quarter of the total game time and all of the goals come from one line.

Then, to compensate for this, during the simulation in Be A Pro the AI rarely scores or concedes a goal.

It's just not well done. It's a very repetitive mode. The games are fun, don't get me wrong, and you have that nice feeling of trying to win it with a great shot or pass. Also the AI are pretty good teammates. But really there is so little to do.

You get XP but can't allocate it so you lose the RPG element. You can effectively do so by choosing training but this amount of XP is tiny compared to that earned in games.

Also the training is just a menu. No skill tests. No mini-games.

Also you can't even customise your face. Just choose from a list of presets and change your beard. Great... Can't even change the build of your character aside for a basic height and weight.

It's about as good as the FIFA Be A Pro but that's not saying much.

Reading all of the things about NBA 2k16 makes me wish I was a bigger basketball fan.

So what are peoples thoughts on this game after playing it for a while? Thinking of getting it. Last NHL game I played was 14. Prob more interested in career mode with occasional online

If you skipped 15, get this.

It's a really fun game which didnt make enough of a gameplay leap from 15 to 16.

If someone just holds down the protect button it's basically impossible to defend. The hitting is each, and every poke check and stick lift is basically a walking penalty.

Just played a game where the kid had 16 minutes on attack to my 3, but only won 1-0. He clearly had no skill but there was no way to get the puck off him.

Seriously, what's the point of playing a game like that? How is this fun?

Picked up this game on the weekend as i wanted a sport hame to play. Disappointed i choose this, game is pretty average tbh

May I ask what your main gripes are?

Id be interested to.
Love ice hockey and the nhl series. Though havent got a ps4 version yet.

To summarise the series in recent years:

NHL 13: Basically the pinnacle of the now "old-gen" series. Lots of features, rock solid gameplay
NHL 14: Whilst FIFA, Madden and even NBA Bloody Live went to next-gen, NHL stayed old-gen. You could tell it was a filler year. Barely any changes to gameplay or features. Sure, it was a better game than 13, but only barely
NHL 15: Debut on next-gen and despite supposedly having two years to work on it, it was feature-bare. Graphics and presentation got a good overhaul, and solid but not perfect gameplay.
NHL 16: Steps to add back the features that were present in the old-gen games, and they've done the main ones. Gameplay has been tuned a little but not much.

I must admit I don't play it super seriously. Most of my time is spent in one off online verses games. Otherwise it's with mates around.

If you like hockey and like video games, I'd struggle to see you not liking it. Sure, compare it to NBA 2k or even FIFA and it will seem a bit disappointing, but it's still good quality.

Cheers for the rundown.

I should add that on old-gen NHL 15 is NHL 14 gameplay plus the new presentation. It was funny because the PS4 version had gameplay and engine enhancements but bugger all features whereas the PS3 version was rather old but had all the features. NHL 16 isn't even called NHL 16, but "NHL Legacy Edition" which is simply NHL 15 plus a roster update, but at full price.

The gameplay pretty much. I expected the game to be a lot more face passed.
Plus not being able to shorten the seasons sucks as well.

The overall presentation of the game is pretty top knot have though

have spent a good 3 months on this game and have decided its rigged.

dominate all season and then suddenly the computer gets better for playoffs and you can't win a game.
