Question Saints supporters.......

Why is he officially now known as 'the out-of-favour Nick Dal Santo' and why does his name continue to be put up in trade rumours?

The reason I ask, is he was one of my favourite players to watch as recently as last year (I haven't seen any footy this year as I'm not in Oz). He is a beautiful mover, great user of the ball. Very outside player, granted, but every team needs one of two of them. Why has he fallen from grace?

Personally I would love to see him in Pies colours. I still don't think he will be traded this year, but if he was available, I'd hope that Collingwood was sniffing around.

Beautiful mover? yes.
skills? yes.
lazy? yes.
Plays a game where he couldn't care less that he has an opponent. And much too often that opponent has a big say in games. But to his defence he does get tagged alot and he just can't handle it.

I wouldn't say he's out of favour with the club, more so with the supporters.
With talks of trade. I think that would only eventuate to lure a big name such as Daniel Kerr.

Buggered if I know. AFAIAC he's a required player, and shouldn't be up for trade. Of course I'm not the one making these decisons ... :D

There's always a million rumours of player trades that turn out to be crap this time of year. I'll get concerned when the deal is actually done, not before.

He was dropped during the season for his lack of defensive pressure. That plus he has been a little out of form this season results in the media tagging him out of favour. I'd be very dissappointed if the club traded him and positive (hopeful:o) he will have a 'comeback to form' year next year.

Players I would not put in the team ( at this time ) in front of DalSanto if we wanted to win. Eddy, Armitage, X, Raph, L Fisher, C Gardiner, Birss, McQualter, Gwilt.
If you look at all the young midfielders on our list, he may be under the pump in future.
And if you had to choose he is definitely behind Joey, Ball and Lenny, and mayyybe even
Gram and Jones.

Who is he better than on Geelong and Hawthorn's lists?

he would be better than a lot of players on those lists..
i think you would find that he would love the freedom playing for geelong, with ablett and bartell taking the main tags..
could posibly be all australian, ide say a corey or j selwood type..

He wouldn't get a game with geelong. If he can't handle a tagger at this stage of his career, he never will. He doesn't work hard enough.

Saints could use him as Trade bait to a club like Collingwood , Essendon wouldn't mind him at the tigers. Wouldn't give more than a 2nd rounder.

Go suck on tambling

This why the Clubs don't ask for supporters opinions regarding trades!

Dal certainly can play as an inside midfielder; The fact that he rarely does might have more to do with the coach's instructions.

Ablett showed how to handle Bateman..you just shove him to the ground because he's a tiny midget. Instead Dal Santo just cried and sooked on the bench.

Clint Jones you mean?

Hear that? that's the sound of your credibility disappearing up its own jacksie.

Dal Santo is behind only Lennie, BJ and Ball if he's fit (which he hasn't been for several years). On his absolute worst day he's a thousand miles ahead of Jones. And a considerable way in front of Joey and Grammy.

Get a clue ...

omg St Dac, when was the last time you've watched a St Kilda game? On his absolute worst day he's ahead of Jones? On Dal Santo's worst day he gets 10 touches, all of them cheapies from the backline, like a kick out or an easy mark in the pocket from the kick out. Clint Jones averages 20 possies and 5 or so tackles. What the hell are you on about? Well i guess you had no credibillity in the first place...

So what are you saying? I have rated him as our 4th best midfielder ( possibly under the pump by a couple of others ) and oops I forg ot BJ again. You are arguing that he is definitely worse than Joey Gram etc.
( Please note that many people regard him as a fair weather player only ).

OK then. We can differ on this but either way he is not a player we want to get rid of. :)

All depends on next year. If we finish 8th or miss out on the finals, then we should've traded Kosi and Dal for picks. If we finish 3rd or 4th, then not trading them is justified. But if we traded them and came 5th or something then you can only think "What if"

We need to make tough decisions if we are ever going to seriously challenge for a Premiership.

Hawthorn have shown again that hard, tough teams (physically and mentally) win flags.

IMO Dal is not hard or tough physically or mentally. He is very, very skillful, but he is soft. Bateman made him look like a little school boy playing against men in the biggest game of our season.

I love you Dal but I'm sorry mate you have had enough chances.

I'm also sorry Kosi. It kills me to say this but how long can we wait for you to produce?

Others that should not be on our list next year - Fiora (aka Fiona), Charlie Gardiner, Michael Gardener, Xavier Clarke (another one who has had about 5 seasons to show something, anything), Michael Rix.

There might be more but that's 7 to start off with. And a message to the recruiting team - look for TOUGH and HARD. Mitchell and Bateman were picked up in the 30's and 40's in the draft so there is plenty of quality past the 1st round.

And this year is supposed to be a deep draft as well, we gotta stock up on a few top 40 draft picks.

It's really a lottery after 30, there will be gems, and there will be duds, but the more picks you have the more chance you have of finding a gem...

According to the best and fairest votes on this board, he is rated 8th on the team out of 27 players that received votes.
I would consider that this means that those who think he is no good at all are a noisy minority!

We don't know if a lot of the Geelong midfield can handle taggers......they have never had one!!!
Maybe we got a glimpse of how they handled it on the weekend:D
Amazing how hard it gets when you haven't got the ball and the other inside midfielders are getting beaten.
Dalsanto's tackle count was one of the best in our side later on in the year.
For Gods sake leave him alone, he is always the one hung out to dry whenever we lose.
He was even criticised on one thread for his game against Collingwood (called a front runner), he was the one early that helped set up the win.

I agree entirely, whenever we lose, it's always Dal Santo this and Dal Santo that. And when we win, he's called a fair weather player! His job is to be a player who gets the ball after someone like Hayes gets in and under. If you criticize Dal for not getting in and under, you could just as easily criticize Max for not kicking any goals!
