what is going on with Nick Smith, will he get a place in the senior side this yr

At the moment I'd say no.

Smith has been disappointing in his development as a player although quitea few injuries have not helped.

A lot of us Melbourne supporters really had high hopes for him. If he fails to break into the side this season then sadly it will be a repeat of what happened with Molan (delisting).

I really saw him as someone who could play 3rd tall for us up forward. Good kick, great hands but lacks speed,agility and the flexibility needed to be able to get the ball from below the knees.

I think he can make a go of it just has to stay injury free.

As Dees_best said can take a good mark, which PJ lacks, but has no versitilty or flexibility which PJ has.

Will be interesting to watch, both are not 100% ready for senior footy yet.

He signed a 2 year deal at the end of last year, so he regardless of how he goes this year, he won't be cut.

I reckon he's a bit of a dud though.

He trained very strongly at training on Wednesday playing in the backline in the match drill. Moved freely and with confidence Nick is a fantastic contested mark have faith people! he'll be in the seniors by Round 10 this year and start at CHB in 2006.

Oh, so you expect Rivers to drop off then?

And don't say "Rivers to FB" as that's not his possie, just like you wouldn't play Nicho at CHB. Smith will be a forward before anything else.

I don't mind his positivity but a bit more thought could've been put into his comments. Looking great in a drill is one thing, making an impact on a real game is another. My main problem with Smith is that despite his bucket hands & strong kicking he drops out of games too easily.

He has a lot of hard work ahead of him.

Deluded??? What i cant expect a first round selection by Craig Cameron wont come good in the end (except Luke Molan). Maybe got a bit hyped up by saying that he will play be by round 10 this year but Danners has a high opinon of the kid and played both Sylvia and McLean in a similar spot (Rnd 9 and Rnd 11) in the year in 2004. If Smith proves himself in the VFL im sure Danners will give him a go this year at some stage.

Saying Smith will be our best CHB next season is a bit premature though.

Rivers is more than capable I would think.

Smith could be of use in Dutchy's position at some stage this season if his Sandringham form can warrant selection.

To get in the side he will need to be able to play 4 quarters of solid football for Sandy instead of one or two.

Nick Smith's time on our list could be determined by how last years draftees perform. A strong couple of years from Bate, Dunn and Newton would make it pretty difficult for Smith to get a KPP spot especially if Ferguson continues to improve and Miller and Rivers maintain their form.

But you can never have too many KPP's!
