It appears from last night's game that the umpires are the ones most likely to score nine pointers. If they give a fifty metre penalty to a player just outside the 50 metre line, that player gets to shoot from a position where he virtually can't miss. Result 9 points.
Some of those 50 meter penalties are so soft they don't deserve one point let alone 9!
The score card should have the name of the umpire who was responsible. Probably why they have changed the color of their uniforms to try and disguise them!
Get rid of that rule and never bring it back!

yeah i reackon that its a good idea for the 9 pointer.. but not if the 50m penalty works.... that is just not right.....they have the 50 M penalty.. isnt that enough...... they dont need to give away another 3 points as well... its just silly how they added that bit to a reasonably good idea for the 9 points outside 50,,,,, keep the outside 50... but make it just that... OUTSIDE 50.....

Since when has a set shot at goal from outside 50m been a certainty?

Stocka I'm not sure but I think Troppo is alluding to the situation where the infringement is called outside the 50m zone, the 50m penalty given, and because the original was outside 50 if it results in a goal it is recorded as a 9pt goal as opposed to a 6pt goal from where it was physically kicked.

Not a huge fan of the 9pt goal myself. However the 3 pt rushed behind I really like. I think it makes the players more accountable and eliminates the easy option. I certainly wouldn't be complaining if the 3pt rule was adopted for the season proper.

Danni, I see what you mean - it was hard to tell if that was what was meant by the original poster.

Yeah as I said I'm not sure but I think that is what Troppo meant.

i reckon the biggest problem is that on occasions the umpires have no bloody idea which side of the 50m arc the ball is kicked from... seen them get several wrong during the Wizard Cup... quite an achievement in stuffing up something that happens only 3-4 times a game on average.

There was one last night.Spriggs got a free from about 60 out,but for some bizzare reason Chris Johnson decided to come in and bowl Spriggs over, which gave away a 50.I don't think you'd argue that decision.

The 50 against Morrison [Graham took a mark,Morrison gabbed him]in the last qtr was a shocker, but it was nowhere near goals.

It is hard to imagine Basketball without the 3 pointer now. It also enabled smaller long distance shooter specialists a way into a game dominated by tall men. The only danger, I can see is the ability to kick goals outside 50 will become prerequisits for midfielders and forwards and thus making the game less accessible.
