My wife tells me that, last weekend, while watching the footy on TV, she saw players in the changing rooms prior to the game, being dispensed with items out of a bucket which was labelled "No Doz". So presumably they were being given No Doz tablets, which are caffeine.

Could this be right?

This was on One Week At a Time but reffering to Fevola. It's with in the rules as long as they keep it under a certain amount they were saying. I watched the game on TV and didn't see anything like that though..?

I just caught a glimpse of this. A female trainer walking around in the rooms with a bucket of pills. It didn't seem to raise much comment from the panel...

It was the Brisbane game.

A female trainer had cut out a section of a paper cup (with the AFL's sponsor on it) and written No Doz on the inside. Fev decided to partake.

Presumably so not to mix up with the salt tablet cup.

caffeine is only limited based on volume in the blood, No Doz wouldn't scratch the surface.

Perfectly legal up to 12 mg/kg of body weight and with good evidence to support its efficacy.

Edit: By the way, 12 mg/kg is a lot of caffeine, a single redbull contains 80mg, which if consumed by an 80kg person corresponds to 1 mg/Kg of body weight and thats assuming 100% efficiency in uptake of the caffeine.

Players have been taking them for many years, Nathan Brown was on record saying he used to take up to 8 a game many years ago.

I used to pop no doz at work all the time when I was working early early hours in the bakery. They def work and really give you a gee up. I cant see why players wouldnt take them before a match, as long as its a controlled amount and you dont get the shakes from taking too many.

Nothing special. No Doz doesn't have that much more caffeine than your average cup of espresso coffee anyway.

Fair point, my experience is that they don't make me need to pee more than normal however 1 cup of coffee and I am gone in the next half an hour needing to pee!

I take one before I play, along with a can of Red Bull, then another one at half time. It really helps and I noticed a HUGE difference the other week when I forgot to take them. After a week at work with kids, I find I'm mentally fatigued by Saturday, but the No Doz helps picks up my awareness and gets me energized to play. If it gives you a fair advantage, I can't see why you wouldn't take them.

"and for this week only, Priceline Pharmacy is selling 100 No Doz for $0.01, when you get your script..."

:p

(I'm a pharmacist, and I HATE discount pharmacies...)

Ha ha, that did sound like an ad now that I read it back. The only thing I could properly endorse would be why its a bad idea to play footy, due to the ridiculous number of obscure injuries I seem pick up. Hang on, maybe I should give Voltaren or Leuko sports tape a call and see if they need a spokesman :D.

I normally have one in the morning as I don't handle mornings well, don't drink coffee and wanted to stop drinking soft drink and they work pretty well. will be hitting them hard on Sunday night to stay up for the soccer

They're overated and I find they have no effect....though I drnk a bit of coffee so maybe it's just not effective to people with a decent cafeine intake.
