looks good ey... When my phone contract ends in 6 months hopefully I can get one for free..

I am keen on one of these beasts, as I am after a GPS and my phone is dated.

5MP camera, 8GB memory, all the usual features, plus an in-built GPS.

I have yet to check one out beyond the net, but my main question is, what costs are likely to be incurred for using the GPS?

i think it depends on the phone carrier really. it would be probably just the same prices as normal downloading content costs.

Well I travel, so it won't be Vodafone or Optus, as I actually want the thing to work.

If you buy a stand-alone GPS, you take it home, plug it in and never pay another cent.

Considering all the maps are on the N95 already, it seems ridiculous to pay to use the GPS function of the phone when you've outlayed the extra cash for the hardware and maps already.

There not all on it. Mine wrnt unless you live in Germany lol. I have those but you have to download your area.

Great phone, does everything but make you a coffee in the morning, But the I must warn the battery life is almost non-existent.

My wife had hers fully charged at 11pm wednesday night and it had died by 10 the next morning. She'd only used it for texting basically

Yeah my mate and I had the same problem but after about aweek or two it is really good. Im on it all day(my wife will tell ya) and i charge about every 3 days. Plus it only takes less than an hour to fully charge.

The GPS on my nokia is free to use, so id be surprised if the N95 charged you for it.

The only reason you may get charged is if your inside a building or underground and the gps cant locate the satellite, the phone will switch and use the internet to get your location. So you can get charged for the net, but theres an option to turn that off so it doesnt use the net.

heres one for you. nokian95 8 and 16 gb > iphone

exactly
when you need to update maps thats the cost
but out of the box the gps works

I've got the Nokia N95. I've downloaded the maps. I think you only pay if you want the voice part.

My GPS doesn't work. The satellite doesn't pick up. I went back to the place i got it when it was new and they did something and said it should be fine now. Well it wasn't. Haven't been back to get them to take another look, just can't be bothered.

Oh and as someone else said, the battery life sucks.

Other than that I love the phone.

How do you download the maps? and does anyone know of any good places for themes/ringtones/games etc

you download maps from the nokia site. I think you go into support then downloads or something. Can't remember exactly as I did it ages ago. You download to your computer and transfer to your phone.

Voice part?

As in 'In 500m, turn left. Continue down the road. In 200m turn right' like all GPS's or 'In 500m turn left at Brearley Ave etc.' with specific road/place names?

A GPS which doesn't speak to you while you are driving would be next to useless. Better off just driving along with a UBD (Melway) in one hand and a spare $800 in your pocket.

Does anyone know where you can get free games for the phone?
The internet..

The GPS is sweet. I've got mine working with Route66 with full voice and mapping etc etc for free..

tomtom 7 will be out soon and will work with an internal GPS because no other programs do besides route66.. but tomtom is a sweet program and i'll be getting it when it comes out..

advice.. don't get the 8gb.. although it looks really sweet, its not THAT much better.. there is no memory expansion slot, and no cover for the camera.. only bonus is the slightly bigger screen and it being black..

ive got a 6gb micro sd card (~$100) (8gb one coming out next month) and im sure they will be double the size in less than a year which would make the 8gb very annoying because you wont be able to expand it.. but hey, if you'r happy with that, go ahead.. its a sweet phone either way..

A very neat little phone. A mate of mine purchased one recently and the camera is great. Very clear pictures. The GPS works a treat too.

Great phone. Vanilla GPS costs about $120 though for 3 years when I checked last which was a turn off for me to use that feature. But you can read the maps for free which is handy in a bind.

TV out rocks, you can surf the web on any TV and with a blue tooth keyboard you're really in business - great for travelling etc.

Have no idea why they removed the lens cover for the 8gb version...stoopid.

I wanted one but someone from work beat me to it and he sacked it after about 6 weeks for a iphone.
The batt life is shocking, he was syncing with isync all day and it would die by 4pm.
