FMD another A-League club about to go under. And they won a flag just three years ago.

I know zero about the different possible models of club ownership, and like everyone I hate the effin’ arrogant AFL admin, but it has to be said, Aussie Rules seems to have a level of stability unheard of in some other Oz sports (particularly soccer.)

Dare I say some of these sports might need to pull their heads in and look at how the AFL is structured and maybe get some good ideas?

The whole soccer fraternity in Australia is baffling. From what my sister has experienced with her eldest, local kids soccer costs nearly 3x as much as local footy to participate in. Where the hell does that money get invested?

The A-League should be able to get more of a foothold than it does because of the relative clean air it gets from a sporting sense over the summer months but manages to shoot itself in the foot more often than not. As for Western United going under, if you were going to get an area of the city that would take up a local soccer side, it would have been in those western suburbs. If a club can't survive there, one won't survive anywhere else in Victoria.

That being said, at local level, there're still many ethnically aligned clubs which may explain why locals don't jump on board with a secular team.
