During the season some players face the issue on missing out on a game all together due to excess numbers. While at the same time some clubs struggle to fill a seconds side on the same weekend. Is there a solution that could maybe be nutted out that means everyone gets a game and at the same time helps another club field a full side?

No one likes to see young keen blokes miss playing footy so maybe a loan system could be an option....

Humpa, I think you can currently do this by way of a match day permit. I remember doing this for Dec Fitzgerald in the U18s in 2009. We signed him in as a Y/Junction U18 for the match as they had about 12-13 only. I think they automatically expire within 24 hours or something similar. I'll do some reading on that and get back to you !!!

In regard to excess numbers, I don't think any club would like to loose players because they can't get a game so any system that gives the excess players a run would surely be good. But don't know how many players would be keen to play for the opposition and also be available on short notice on any game day.

Another option would be to maybe extend the 2's bench from 4 to say 6 or 8 so clubs aren't forced to leave as many players out of a team. I recall reading many coments on this forum about 2's football meaning nothing so why not?

Just a thought.

Maybe just a phone call on a Thursday after selection to the closest club or clubs in the division your not playing in. Let them know your have X amount of blokes keen for a game if your struggling let us know. Its not ideal that a player is playing eleswhere but its better than losing them all together if they become frustrated due to not getting a game.

There is no perfect solution to this one as you are dealing with peoples emotions & everyone feels something different when in this situation.
I would agree with this sentiment above as a best result. Most of the guys missing out would prefer not to play at all if not playing with their chosen team or mates. An unlimited bench gives headaches for the coach but at least the players get to feel part of it to some degree.
It seems to work well in the 18's.

Sure coach (not to mention club) would rather deal with an extended bench than having to tell a blokes why they can't play footy.

As a club you are in a no win situation as if you don't work at building a club were people want to play then you struggle for numbers while on the other side of the coin, committees and members put in the yards and end up with disgruntled players who cant get a game.

Extended 2's bench would have to be better for clubs and league.

great idea, but what happens when you've got an extended bench for one side, and the opposition has a minimal bench because they are struggling for numbers?

Very hard to manage four on the bench let alone more. I still believe if a player has the chance to drive down the road for a kick with another club its better than nothing. Again its the players choice but at least he has some chance of a game.

I think some guys would be a bit embarressed by heading over to play with a bunch of new blokes due to the fact the were unable to get a game in the 2s at their usual club. Generally the bottom half of ressies players are out there just to have a kick with their mates so i doubt many would be keen to play for other clubs.

Extended bench would be a nightmare to manage and would result in players whinging about not getting enough game time.

Its best left with the individual to make his choice to either stay and watch his mates play or head over to a new club and get a game. Like most sports you have to make a decision on where you play based on your ability.

In the VAFA they have a section called Club 18. Essentially teams that have excess players to seniors and reserves play in their club 18 side. There are 3 divisons with a total of 25 clubs. While it would be hard for any Yarra Valley side to come up with an extra team it does have merit. You find that players that can not train at all or a little past it (veterans) play in a club 18 side. Mt Lilydale could not field a reserve side a few years ago so they entered club 18 rather than having to fold. While not much success a year later that got two sides and played senior finals.
