Can't believe this didn't happen in america...

LONDON (Reuters) - Police in the west of England said on Friday they had
recovered a cache of stolen property having been led to the hoard -- by a
squirrel.

"A 29 year old man was arrested at 1:20 a.m. suspected of burglary," a
spokeswoman for Avon and Somerset Police told Reuters.

"When officers returned to the scene of the crime they were met by a secret
squirrel," she added, reading from the case-book.

"The squirrel indicated it wanted the officers to follow it by running a
little, stopping and then looking back before continuing."

She said it then climbed a tree, at the base of which officers found four
boxes of stolen crockery.

"We are not keen to highlight this," said the spokeswoman. "We never like to
encourage vigilantes."

Sounds like they already had the guy under surveillance and needed a reason to show probable cause for a search.

The squirrel story is odd, but perfect. It works, and is strange enough that it becomes believable if delivered straight. It has that "who could make up something like this" type effect. Sort of like W. Bush saying he choked on a pretzel when we all know his ol' lady batted him.
