The Darwin football competition (NTAFL) is played in the summer being the wet season in the Topend. If anyone is interested in going to Darwin over summer or would like to know more let us know by replying and i will fill you in a bit more.

Sounds like a bit of fun. I probably wont play cricket this summer so footy sounds good.

SO WHERE ARE YOU FROM AND WHO DO YOU PLAY FOR AT THE MOMENT.

I wish i could play footy in the summer.

Wouldn't all the NT grounds be hard?

Well not really because it is our wet season.
Most games are played on marrara oval which is the same ground they play all the AFL and international cricket on.
so most of the games are played on a 1st class ground.
the bulldogs are actually playing port here in the next couple of weeks.

How many teams in the comp and how many rounds?

7 team comp. and about 18 rounds .
Each year we play a REP game against an AFL team so theres a bit of oppotunity to show your stuff.
Its not a bad comp. Last year we had a few ex AFL players running around plus a fair amount of SANFL players as well so theres some quality players here.

If your after money this isnt for you although the club will look after a player as far as travel expences, job and accomodation depending on credentials.

the experience is worth it, the players and everyone involved with the club spend plenty of time together fishing and shooting which is an every day thing up here.
Heres the best thing about it, you can get out of preseason training back home.

I'm only playing at local club level for Flagstaff Hill, in the Southern League in SA. Sounds like you're after SANFL type players.

No not really, im not an official or anything like that, i only started this thread just to see what sort of interest i could get on here.
There are plenty of players that make there way up from country vic and amature clubs all over australia.

I dont know what type of player you are so i cant really say if it would be worth your time or not.
I think what happened Last year at the club is a group of guys made there way up from the SANFL and they played well so the club ended up looking after them by paying airfairs home and geting them jobs and stuff like that.

Even if you came up and played reseverve grade all year you would enjoy your stay because the southern boys always get looked after.

Very true, I'll give it a go, can't hurt to get a head start against the rest of the players at my club. Could you send the club my email address? BrianHamilton295@hotmail.com. Would be greatly appreciated.

No worries i can do that.

Can you talk us through the teams up there? eg, who is the pretty boy/show pony side, the roughnuts, the working class, the battlers, the whatever??

THIS IS IN ORDER OF LAST YEARS LADDER. not too sure about the statistics but ill try my best.

St Marys
Last years premiers and the year before.
power house of the NTFL and get looked after by the umpires.
Most unliked team in the comp but because they are a good club.
produced the likes of maurice rioli, micheal long and Peter Burgoyne.

Nightcliff tigers.
havent won a premiership in about 40 years but played in the grand final for the last few year but cant win one.
Coached by Magic Mclean .

Wanderers eagles.
last year made the Finals for the first time since 96.
The tough nuts of the competition and if not for the umpires could have been premiers last year but lost 4 key players before the finals (3 to suspesion). Original club of Daniel Motlop.

Palmerston magpies
Knocked out of finals by Wanderers but have won 3 premierships in the past 5 years . Aaron Davey

Darwin Buffs
coached by chris lewis but couldnt make the finals but have been a successful team in the past. Original club of crows no. 23

Sth District crocs
a rural club that have only been around for about 15 years and have only the 1 premiership.
a struggling side eat the moment . This year predicted top draftpick Richard Tambling is from here along with Nathan Buckley

Waratahs.
Realy struggled last year . Not much mor i can say. good club though.
Dean Rioli's original club.

sorry thats the best i can do .

how good do u have to be?

I know a few that played up there that r in my team now?

Well you dont have to be a star to play at this level but i'd say any regular senior player in amature footy would be good enough to play senior footy in darwin.
its about the same as SANFL reserves i think.
