Why is it that every phantom draft, even the one on AFL.com, has us only having 4 picks. We currently have 34 on the list. If Hird and Mercuri go on the vet list (and I can't think of any reason why they would not be placed there) we have 6 spaces to fill.

We will only be using 4 picks, Hird and Mercuri will be on the veterans list as far as receiving the salary cap concession. They will still be part of the 38 senior listed players. We'll probably pick up 6 rookies.
Not sure why though. Perhaps there's salary cap pressure.

We may have a reason to only pick 4 players but we should still have 6 choices, 2 of which we will pass on ie pick 76 should still be ours and we can pass on that pick but everywhere this pick is listed as belonging to another club.

no, it's like Stevo said Hird and Mercs are still on the main list (even though we are taking the 50% reduction in salary counted towards the cap) so they count towards the 38 on the main list which means we only have 4 picks.
Otherwise we'd go into the season with a main list of 36 players, and 2 vets/4rookies. By keeping them on the main list (since we can't afford to have the two extra draftees) we can have 38 players (including the two vets) and 6 rookies.
