My broadband is working.

If yours is not, you won't be able to read this. Sorry. Until it is.

I'm still connected via Telstra cable, I have HFC NBN available but haven't gotten around to jumping on board yet.

I have noticed that since HFC NBN became available in my area (uses the existing Telstra cable network) that my previously stable cable connection has become inconsistent speed wise and I am always having to power down my modem and restart it because the line drops out.

I just got a letter from my ISP: "Get the VIP treatment"

looks like I can go to < half my ADSL2+ speed for the same amount I'm already paying per month... yeah sure, where do I sign?

or I can get the same speed* for a mere 33% increase on my monthly payments.

*theoretically, but I'm in a HFC area as well and judging by reports from people in other areas on that service already its going to be utterly ****ed.

EDIT: and if you want a "faster" connection, its a 66% increase - which isn't too bad on paper if you're actually getting 100mpbs - but that plan only guarantees you'll get between 12 & 100mbps... or in other words could still be up to HALF as slow as my current connection.

Update from my end: I had my NBN HFC connection on auto-channel and the speed often dipped well below acceptable levels.

On my ISP's recommendation, I changed to a few other channels and they were good for a while but became rubbish. Now I'm on one channel which has given me about 19-24 mbit/s for a couple of weeks but I know it's going to become slow again.

Really, I shouldn't have to play around with channels and worry about whether my neighbour is on the same channel. My contract with this ISP is up soon, so it will be goodbye.

NBN in my area has been brought forward 18 months, even though irs FTTN and not FTTH to rhe home i was promised 6 years ago, the node is about 300 metres away and has to be better than the 3 mbit/s i get now

Are you on 100mb connection ?

Considering how shit the NBN is, I am surprised that people are only signing up for 12.5mb and 25mb speeds.

From what I have been told (not sure how true it is or not) that a 100mb connection will drop down to between 60-80kbs during peak times.

My NBN at home is a disaster. Ever since switching from ADSL we've had connectivity problems. It goes down every day for at least a couple of hours after about 4pm. It's down most mornings when I wake up. Was down from 4:30 to sleep time last night, this is the norm. I tried to watch a movie through Foxtel last Sunday and it was an absolute disaster. Couldn't get the movie to download properly, kept reaching the buffer, then it would take me back about 20 minutes. If I fast forwarded at any faster than 2x, it would immediately reach the buffer point. By the end, I couldn't even watch past points that I'd previously already watched. It was a shambles. There were 2 places in the movie that repeated at least once when watching by the end of it. I'm sure this is partly due to Foxtel's platform, we don't have the same issue with Netflix etc, but I'm sure getting 1.1Mbit/s with shit quality is part of the problem. I'd say that I've spent over a dozen hours on the phone to Telstra over the last 6 months. I've had a new modem sent, multiple stability profiles and nothing has resolved the issue. They open a case and when I call back a week later, the case is closed and round and round we go. I did recently get agreement to waive my 4g extra data charges, but it still appears on the bill. So my last bill had about 100 x 1g for $10 extra charges. I can't get these waived yet because my 'Case Manager' reckons that even though she agrees that I'm not liable for those charges, "why would I waive the charges if the issue hasn't been resolved?". So she's working feverishly behind the scenes to get this sorted. Interesting how I can call this morning and the most recent case has been closed and all is well again. But, "oh, I've just tested again and the problem is at the exchange and that is being fixed today, call us back tomorrow if you're still having trouble".

All I've asked for over the last few calls is one of the frontier modems which has 4g backup that comes from your NBN plan rather than my 4g data limit. I'm so angry with these morons that I can barely see how much better off I'd be if i just went out and purchased one of the bloody things outright.

Am I the only one who's getting what they paid for with their NBN?

Only issue was the first guy that installed it 'fixed' the corroded cable, and someone had to come out a few days later to fix it properly. Since then I've barely had an issue, and I'm getting the speeds I paid for.

Let me guess! Telstra?

Nup, I'm on the NBN fixed wireless with Activ8me and get exactly what I'm paying for.

I average 22 on the 25 plan so happy. Havent had the knockouts others talk about. Overall , apart from the pricing its given me what I expect and need

As I averaged 5 at best on ADSL I have to be happy

Is anyone around here with Internode?

My family was with them on ADSL 2+ and never had any real dramas. Used to get around 1.5-2 megabytes/s DL speed.

I’ve stayed with them at my place on FTTN on a 50/25Mbps plan and usually see 44/18Mbps speeds.

Going to upgrade to the 100/50 plan because apparently my line is capable of speeds of 90-93Mbps some tests are telling me.

Am I one of the only people getting decent speeds out of the NBN? Because literally 98% of people I speak to have has nothing but disastrous stories.

I am with Internode. I am happy as I noted above

Just be very careful you can get the advertised speeds. There has been a lot of complaints and even the ACCC got involved over dodgy promises. If you are on 44/18 then that should be adequate (imo)

Getting 3.5-4.0 now. And since Telstra has finally sent the Frontier modem to the right address, I've got no dropout issues. So, the complaint can be closed and they can refund the $2k of extra 4g data charges to my account.
