I like the one-upsmanship, and I enjoy the stirring. That's the way I am, and I'm not going to change my personality.

I am very proud of my club, and I like to boast of our achievements. I am like this, even when we are towards the middle of the ladder, or the bottom as we were in '97. I am always confident in our ability to win "the next match we play." In 1997, I was exactly the same.

I will happily wear any insults that come my way, if we do lose. That's footy, and the ribbing between supporters is no big deal. In fact, it's fun. Why do you think it's such a big deal? Why don't you take advantage of this wonderul team we have at the moment, and enjoy the one-upsmanship while you can? The other supporters absolute hate our success, and I LOVE that.

Mantis, they are just words on a screen. Deal with it. Those who have the guts to put their ass on the line will cop in when they lose, but it makes it all the more sweeter when we win. The other supporters will bag us no matter what if we lose, regardless of what I say, and thats great.

I WANT them to bag us when we lose. It means they hate us, and are glad to see us lose. It means they "care."

"IF" we happen to lose, I want them to come at us all guns blazing. I want them to "care." I'll stick by my team thank-you-very-much and I will not refrain from predicting that we wll win ournext mathc/matches, or whatever the near future has in store for us. Bomber fans are well known for putting the previous match behind them, and being extremely confident of winning their next match: "It doesn't matter if we lost last week. This week, it will be different" is the feeling of the typical Bombers fan.

As a supporter of our club, I am always optimistic of victory, and I won't refrain from letting those unfortunate enough to barrack for another team, all about it.

Mantis you are talking to someone who has openly said that Carlton fans could mount the best case for their club being the greatest. I wouldn't go to 30 AFL matches a year (12 non-Essendon) if I didnt respect those clubs I go to see each week. Why would I go to watch them if I didn't respect them?

I respect them, but those other fans are still in the unfortunate situation of barracking for a team other than Essendon.

This is footy. We are supposed to give it to the other fans, in a good natured (eg not racist) way. I can't believe this topic has even been brought up.

I can't believe I am actually defending myself for having the gall to tell everyone how good Essendon is, and (shock horror) having the belief that we will win the premiership (and letting the other fans know about it). What the hell is footy coming to? Don't tell me you and Dave are being sanitised to new extremes. Say it ain't so.

Dan, I never said you shouldn't **** stir, or that you shouldn;t enjoy the teams current success (god knows I am). All I ask is that you tone it down a little (hence the smilie in the post). It wasn't a flame, just a plea.

I have no problem at all with the give and take, but statements like "you can't beat us" or "we will win this years flag" are inflammatory, and plain silly, particularly after '99.

By all means want the other supporters to hate us if you want. hate us, but me personally, I'd prefer not to be referred to as one of those "arrogant Essendon f*cks"...

Im kinda with dan on this one too. While Im not going to be guaranteeing any premierships like Dan has, im happy to talk us up against whoever may be our next h&a opponent.

Think of it this way- it doesnt matter how nice and "unarrogant" we may all be, if we lose any game, the same tossers come out and start taking cheap shots regardless (ie HAHA Essencrud chokers etc). So why not play the arrogant role ??? Essendon is the most hated club no matter how civil you may be to people, and Ive actually got to like that fact, so why not play with it a bit ??

Walshy, Arch, I'm not saying we don't THINK we'll win it, but there is a difference between:

I think we'll win the flag

and

We will win the flag.

That's all. 1999 was damn painful (not because of who we lost too, simply that we lost when we should not have) & I'd rather not go through it again. Statements like the second one above just make it worse.

I'm not saying don't give it to the opposition fans and I'm not saying don't enjoy the win. I'm not having a personal go at Dan, just asking that he tone it down a tad. If he doesn't want to that's fine by me, it's just a little friendly advice is all.

Walshy, I've used the 16-14 one in another forum but I tend to steer clear of the threads you're referring to in here, they degenerate too quickly into mindless sillyness.

Dan, give 'em as much curry as you like, god knows we've copped it over the years but, please, just add those two little words eh?

Persoanlly, I quite like being called arrogant, because it's true. A lot of Bomber fans are arrogant, and rightly so. We are the best (we know it), and arrogance means you "look down" on those who are not as good. I have no problem at all with being called an "arrogant Essendon f*ck" (well, maybe without the word f*ck )

The more pissed off they (opposition fans) get we me/us, the more I enjoy it. Look at what Magpies fans are like. One win, and they start talking premierships. We might "bag" them for it, but they are great supporters. If we/I cop a verbal barrage if we lose, we will have to wear it. They're only words on a screen, so it doesn't bother me.

And besides, even if we do lose, we still have the advantage of barracking for Essendon. The supporters of the club that beats us, will still be looked down upon (by me) simply because they are unfortuate enough to support someone other than Essendon


So, as far as I'm concerned, even if we lose, we are winners. We barrack for Essendon, and win-or-lose, that is a bragging right in itself.

btw sands- I noticed im rocketing up the standings in FFooty now, well from 29th to about 24th, so that jug of frosty VB is looking pretty secure come rnd 21

I'm with Dan on this one. I think as a whole, Essendon supporters have been quite humble given our success. Imagine if Collingwood had anywhere near the same success as we have had over the past couple of seasons. I'm sure you know what the BigFooty boards would look like.

We should be enjoying our current successes, and I'm sure the majority of us are. Yes we have been accused of being arrogant...but at least we have something to be arrogant about (unlike supporters of a nameless black & white club).

Our success is really getting up the noses of Collingwood and Carlton supporters especially! Nothing would hurt a Carlton supporter more than seeing this Essendon side surp*** their precious 16 premierships. They continue to harp on about '99, having 'imaginations' that it will happen again. They have become preoccupied with 'stopping' Essendon winning the flag than them trying to go and win one themselves

I find that quite amusing!

Look, in a nutshell, the way I feel, is that even if we lose, I am a winner because I barrack for Essendon. I hope others understand that thinking.
