Oliver outed in carnival blow

Sunday, 2 September 2007: Top jockey Damien Oliver will miss crucial spring races following a 16 meeting suspension at Caulfield yesterday.

Oliver copped the ban aboard favourite Haradsun in the feature Memsie Stakes, allowing his mount to shift in and tightening Cinque Cento along the rails.

The ban is a big blow for Oliver who, pending appeal, will now not only miss the ride of Marasco in the Makybe Diva Stakes as racing returns to Flemington next weekend, but also the following weekend at Moonee Valley where he was to ride Gold Edition in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes and Haradasun in the Group 2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes.

Oliver begins his suspension at midnight tomorrow and will not return until September 19.

It may also rule out rides on yesterday’s winners Ice Chariot and Royal Asscher.

Meanwhile Steven Arnold was also suspended for his ride on Hidden Strings, when not clear of Blue Grouse.

Arnold, who scored a winning double on Hidden Strings and Undue, copped a 13 meeting suspension and will miss next weekend’s return to Flemington.
