If this is the next group of football players in aus, then i'm concerned. The Argentina game was better, with some of the players introduced having some actual footballing ability, rather than being robots who can run all day. Spiranovic and Carney have good touch on the ball, but it seems the rest are picked on fitness rather than technical ability.
If we are going to get anywhere, we need to pick a neutral coach from Holland who is going to give honest assessments of players and pick them based on skill and ability, not just physicality and endurance. Also, i think it shows we need an overseas youth coach to teach the skills that other footballing nations have ingrained in them. Archie Thompson should not have been picked, sure he's quick, but no good on the international stage.

We play Ivaroe Coast tonight.

Any relation to Travis Varcoe?

It was doomed from the beginning. How Burns, Djite and Vidosic weren't selected is anyone's guess. And the three overage players are plodders at best. The whole thing from an Australian perspective has been a farce and with any luck it'll be the end of Arnold's reign. We were ok defensively against the Argies but shocking offensively and I continue to not see the love affair with Archie Thompson. How many times is it going to have to be proven before it sinks in that this guy at international level is a spud?

Zadkovitch looks alright. Milligan will be solid for years, and Fedderici has hardly put a step wrong in goals.

It will be interesting, but hopefully when that twit Graham Arnold gets the ass, we'll be able to put in a side capable of winning a game or two...

Downed 1 - 0 by Ivory Coast, who were blessed to have players like Kalou (from Chelsea) amongst their 11. Much better showing tonight, and Archie would definitely have put away one or two of the chances we created tonight. Much better showing. Just lacked polish at the pointy end. Billy Celeski has been the most creative midfielder, and probably Australia's best player, over the 3 games. We just lack that bit of brilliance in the final 3rd. Archie was selected for the simple fact that we couldn't put away our chances throughout the qualifying campaign, just like tonight when we created many. I'm sure Arnold would've preferred a more seasoned over aged International, but none made themselves available. Carney was pretty good. Ah well.................F#*K!

Oh it was bliss to watch the game in full, with Basheer commentating. No sudden mistimed interuptions (ads), and a deep knowledge of the players and the game. SEVEN SUCK!

Couldn't agree more. But arnold needs to be sacked he was hopeless as soceroos coach and he's hopeless as olyroos coach.

send him to papua new guinea or one of them other oceania nations.:D

Thanks for the update, T'toes . I watched the telecast on SBS around 9:30ish. Kalu played well but Australia had there chances in the second half.

The whole system is wrong. They need to get some european coaches at all levels adopting the dutch system, if that's what the national team is doing. Spiranovic and Celeski are class.

Total coach football???

Sorry Arnie, you've done sweet FA since the WC, which was the Guus' bag anyway, so F OFF.

Thanks for all the fish.

As Carlos Alberto Diego said on sen, in his post game analysis on SEN, "Graham Arnold is what he is...............a top class ASSISTANT Coach. That's why Guus personally ensured Arnold remained on board in that specific role. He communicates well with players and is fantastic around the training paddock. HOWEVER..........where he's found lacking is on display in those moments within a game or a tournament where the team's being outplayed, the plans are coming unstuck, and something out of left field is required to completely change the momentum and inspire a win. All of the world's great football managers have that X-Factor. It's an intangible air of authority and presence, backed by experience at the highest levels in the most renowned countries and leagues in the world, as Guus Hiddink espoused brilliantly. That Graham lacks that edge is not his fault, but it is the fault of the coaching selection panel that his shortcomings in that area weren't recognised. He's a great Assistant coach, and I don't think he should be banished. I do however think we should be aiming much higher, and going for the services of a proven International standard manager/coach, who fits in with the National Team Management's methods and ambitions........ie, a Dutch Coach!"

I have to agree..................

Djite and Burns should definitely have played, for one. Hopefully the fact that we qualified for the tournament thorugh the tough Asian League, should be the new base expectation from which we launch a new improved assault on the world stage!
