Yes, but in that case you still call, because it's likely he is playing for the high, and not the low at all. You can't fold there, in my opinion - you've come all the way to the river, and it's one more bet. And your low still could very well be the best.

My original situation was with others playing behind me. Playing on low limit tables a lot of ppl will play with A3 and hope that a 2 comes down to win it for them. However as i said before it would very much depend on the pot and the size of the bet (I play PL).

Guess I still don't know what I'm doing with Omaha 8/b.

Played a $2 SnG, dealt AA27ss, flop 789 none of my suits, turn 2, I'm thinking damn, counterfeited, but the river brings a 4 and i'm saved. Or so I thought.

I thought I was good for the low with my A2. Villain shows KJ65 and scoops.

So he has 76542 for low, I have 87421. When you look at it like this, using Borgsta's method, it's obvious. But when I was at the table, it just didn't make sense. Guess I needed A3.

I can't guarantee I wouldn't make the same mistake again.

You'll get it with experience. When you play it enough, you'll find yourself showing down the best low hand close to 100%. Working out the low can be a kind of jigsaw puzzle at first, but like everything, it comes with experience.

I played an Omaha Hi/Lo sit and go last night - perhaps the most frustrating game of my life. The game was easy until it got three-handed, and some idiot kept hitting miracle cards on the turn and river to crush me. I'm talking hitting gutshots, bigger full houses etc. So I had to play a patient game, and wait for the scoop. And sure enough, when I had the absolute nuts, he would pay me off thinking his low was good - and that's how you crush them. Took the chip lead into heads up and took a massive beat, and was left with about 2,000 in chips at 500/1000 blinds, but still managed to somehow win - I don't think I lost a pot heads up (except those I folded pre-flop) for about ten minutes. It was the most fun I've had with poker in a while, which was good.

My recommendation is to go on the .01/0.2 cent tables somewhere for a while and just play it. That way when you stuff up, it wont cost you a lot.

Organised a social game of Omaha with friends last night. None knew how to play, we'd played Holdem previously. It was just for play money, but I think everyone enjoyed having more options with the 4 cards.

Whenever I've tried to incorporate Omaha (Hi) into home games, I either get "Why? Let's just play Hold'em." or "How do I play this again?"

Although I did have a nice rotating game with a guy a month or so ago. We played a big mixture of games - No Limit Hold'em, Seven Card Stud, Razz, Stud Hi/Lo, Chicago, 2-7 and A-5 Triple Draw, 2-7 No Limit Draw, Crazy Pineapple, and Omaha Hi/Lo. Pretty fun, too. Oh, we also played a few hands of a new game I recently learned, "Mississippi Stud", which is Seven Stud played like No Limit Hold'em.

I seem to be finding myself having more fun with poker playing mixed games - like tonight while watching the BigFooty game, I played some Five Card Draw. Hold'em is becoming a chore for me lately, and I'm not really having fun with it. But good to see you're spreading the word on Omaha :thumbsu:

There appears to have been a (non-advertised) Pot Limit Omaha tournament at Crown last night. Buy-in $200+$30, 30 players, top 5 paying:

1st - 35% - $2100
2nd - 25% - $1500
3rd - 17% - $1020
4th - 13% - $780
5th - 10% - $600

Falchoon, if this becomes a regular thing, I'd be disappointed if you didn't enter.

EDIT: Just called Crown, they said they just organised it on the spot. I'd say more ad-hoc tournaments could occur around the Specialty Cash Games (PDF). On Sundays, there's a $5/$5 Pot Limit Omaha cash game, buy-In $500-$2000 4pm start. I think last night's tournament started at about 7pm.

Even though the PDF says current to June 30, I don't think anything has changed. Let us know if you give it a go. I've heard rumours that there's a chance for an 8OB tournament on Thursdays. I think the way these adhoc tournaments will go ahead is if a few players ask the Crown staff if they can organise a tournament. Last night, I think it just started from some discussion at the cash game and it developed into a tournament.

Omaha tournaments are great. Most people have no idea, and will throw their chips in thinking they have an awesome hand... but forget that you can only use two of your hole cards.

Yeah, pretty much. But you still gotta wait for scooping hands. But needless to say when you scoop, you win monster pots.

Let's just say I feel 100% more confident of winning playing Omaha Hi/Lo than Hold'em. Unless it's Pot Limit Hold'em.

I prefer hold em tournaments. I play a lot of sng's on ultimate bet, and do quite well.

We'll see how you hold up next monday then!
Just to clarify I'm not refering to myself as being part of the elite, I'm just in it for the sledging.

I've got stuff on every monday night unfortunately. I haven't seen what the people are like here, so I'm not saying anything!

I did see a $230 one scheduled for August that I was saving my bikkies for. Having not played live, remembering 4 cards might be tough, as will tracking the pot

$240 actually - Wed 30/8 @ 7:15pm

You do realise it's a rebuy tournament? Last night was a freezeout.

Also a Limit PLO8 freezeout on Mon 28/8.

Even though I didn't know about this, and when I called Crown, they confirmed my initial suspicion that this was not advertised, it actually was advertised:

Crown Jul to Sep calendar (PDF)

Might have been Crown's first ever Omaha tournament outside a major event (Aussie Millions, April Champs, Vic Champs).

In that case I'll probably give it a miss, talk about crapshoot early
