What did people think of the new footy song by John Schumann(sp) One True Game, I thought it was great, brought a lump to my throat watching the video clip.

Same here. Had that festival, "grand final Saturday" feel to it.

I'm sure that "Footy Show" appearance isn't the last we've heard of that song.

Cheers,
William

yeah it was pretty good, a bit of an anthem so that can't be too bad.

Footy has been lacking some of that culture for while, the songs like up there cazaly and one day in september and channels 7's song from a few years back were great.

Nothing beats a good footy tune.............

actually the other week in the ponsford stand against Richmond a bit of World Cup fever mustve hit because i was singing my usual songs and a fair few ppl clapped to them rather than looking at me like i was a nutter (which i probably am)

Wouldn;t it be great to get some of that soccer style cheering going along with the traditional aussie rules "YA WHITE MAGGOT!" and "BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLL!!! ...... YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!"

oh yeah minus the riots and hooligans etc ;)

I agree SonofScray that nothing beats a good tune but I wish that AFL supporters got the passion of European Soccer fans.

British Rugby League fans would do, they know how to chant just like their footballing (soccer) counterparts. You Antipodeans have no clue how to raise the roof.

It needn't end in violence, you can still take the peees out of the opposition.

I thought it had too much of 'Up There Cazaly' in the chorus. I'm convinced that Schumann was humming that tune to himself when he wrote this song.

Having said that, the masses will eat this one up.

Was this guy the lead singer with 'Redgum'?

If so, it would not surprise the tune appeared familiar. Rumours abounded during the eighties that their hit song 'Only Nineteen' was less than original.

Story goes that the song lyric was written by a Vietnam vet, who was never credited. May have even been some legal action about it.

We don't have time to sing during our game - there's too much happening! Singing and chanting are for the slow boring SCORELESS bits, which is 95% of soccer games and about 80% of rugby.

(Although I do like soccer and enjoy the singing :) )

SonofScray, how about teaching our supporters your songs, they are sometimes a bit too quiet.

curly, i took that onboard and started a chants thread on the doggies board....... people can then add any of the ones they make up to it as well.
