I didn't know which board to post this question but figured you guys would know the answer.

Why can we (Australians) participate in online sports betting but we can't use online casinos?

Cheers.

Not sure what u mean mate. Im a member of an online casino that plays for real money.

Due to Federal legislation, the only region in Australia that has legalised online gambling is the Northern Territory.

Hope that answers your question

The Interactive Gaming Act specifically targets the establishment of an online business that incorporates gambling and sports betting. This legislation refers to the establishment of a business, not the exclusive right of an individual to participate in online gaming. The only region you can establish this type of online business is in the NT. Federal legislation prevents this happening in any other state within Australia.

I have a lawyer friend who is across this.:thumbsu:

well I did a bit of research today.

As Phil stated the act was designed to go after the establishments and its not really illegal for individuals to gamble except if you reside in QLD or ACT, then it is illegal if you knowingly participate in an online casino.
I found an Aussie site that can red-direct you to a few casinos, all based out of Australia but have Aussie help phone numbers.
I joined one and am up $472, so I'll find out what happens when I try and cash out.
