No, you can't.

And it's a very good thing... because PC players can use hacks, and they can use a mouse... us PS3 players would get destroyed.

Can't find anyone to play on the PSN?

Sucks not having a universal friends list.
What are you talking about?

It's easy to make mates on the PSN, in fact I have made close friends with about 3-4 people already, and I never knew them before owning a PS3.

And Home will just increase that friendship, oh thank you Sony!

PS3 users = Friendly:thumbsu:

XBOX 360 users = Cocky!:D

Hehe. I just play with people I know. Some of my real life friends have consoles

Home? Is that more like the Sims or Second Life?

I fully see the point in that the only thing is most of my real life mates don't own a PS3, in fact only one of my mates owns a next-gen console and that is a 360, so I wanted guys on my PS3 friends list, and everyone of them are great people.

I think the first thing that really allowed for some Aussie mates first off was Resistance only having Australian Servers for the first few months of the game, this allowed for you to play alot of the same people over a while and eventually make good mates with alot of them.

This has actually been a bit of a disappointment since the Global Servers came in as I haven't really been able to play many games at all with guys on my friends list, as there are always so many other people online at the same time.

Pretty much yes, only first off it will look fantastic, you will be able to fully customise you Avatar(Character) and be able to do 100's of things in it, you can play mini-games in the Home world, launch into games with your mates, view achievements from games, and rumours are you will eventually be able to rent Full-Length feature movies and invite you virtual friends to watch them with you.

For more on it watch this 2:32 trailer of what it is about, may even swing you towards Sony a bit more.;)

This is sort of what I was getting at.

So you can't get online, see that your mates are on, and invite them to a game straight away? Or is that what the Sony Second Life will allow you to do?

I'm not anti-Sony really, I loved my PS2 for ages. None of those features get me excited I'm afraid. All my comments are just in fun.

You can invite them into a game, but you can't launch into a game with them so that you are in the game at the same time and place.

You do still have to remember that the PSN is absolutely free(Unlike XBOX Live) and HOME will be free as well, not only that it will only be a small download(Around about 500MB), so as soon as it is available you will pretty much be able to play it within 10-15 minutes.

XBOX 360 users = Cocky!:D

Its because we're so good.:D

Nah, gaming online with the 360 in 99% enjoyable. Lots of aussies on there too which is always good for a laugh. There's the odd dick american, rarely, but its a simple 2 click thing to block people like that so you're never matched with them again.

Must say i have about 10 real friends with 360's (main reason i bought one), so i almost always have people i know personally to play with. Makes the online experience so much more fun when you're blowing people away you have beers with on a regular basis.

See this is the difference.

Most of my mates aren't gamers, nor are they nerds!:D

My mates aren't nerds either, neither am i. Gamer = Nerd certainly doesn't apply these days, its just another frm of entertainment. Its a cheap way to catch up too with VOIP in game. We'll game and shoot the shit at the same time.

The money you pay for live is certainly well worth it. If your mates are online you just open up a new lobby, invite em all in, and start searching for games. Your team will then stay together for as long as you want it to, you can even change the game and do it all again.

Worth every cent i reckon

Should have gone to the E-Games Expo, I snagged free tickets.

I can tell you that 100% of those guys were Gamer=Nerd, there were ponytails, NO Deodorant and bad teenage moustaches everywhere.:p

Just natural that anyone would think 90% of "Gamers" would be Nerds anyway.

This is the thing about HOME though, first off you wont need to pay for the application, and you will be able to do all that you said there, and with Kevin Rudd getting into government and finally Australia getting a Broadband plan to match the World by 2009, gaming will be alot more impressive on the PSN than the payed for XBOX Live.

Gotta be pretty nerdy to go to a games expo tho mate, hardly an accurate cross section of your average gamer. None of my mates or i, remotely fit that description

We'll see. I'm not holding my breath waiting for ADSL2 in my neighbourhood anytime in the next 3 years, thats for sure. Pretty big call to say a free network will be better than the subscription xbl network, which will no doubt keep pace. Thats the way these sorts of things work in the games industry.

Benefits all console owners these sorts of updates, its a good thing.

That would benefit XBOX Live just as much as PSN.

And dont get me started on Rudd - he will not deliver.

Well the Rudd government has today given Telstra an assuance they have been waitign over a year for. Telstra will now activate ADSL2+ in over 900 exchanges, serving 2.4 million more people :D:thumbsu:

What's your problem with Rudd beaumont? Do you know anything about this?

No doubt it will benefit both but the fact is one of the main reasons people have a go at the PSN is because there can be some sever lag in certain games, couple of reasons for this is because there aren't dedicated severs available(Only world servers and if they are available that it the developers choice), and also because Australia's broadband speed is shockingly slow compared with other countries and it shows, but once the speed goes up PSN will be able to claw back the lag difference and the PSN will look more enticing.

And with your last comment you just need to look at the previous post.

Meh, I'm happy to have paid my $50 for 12 months LIVE and forget about it. For the best online service around, it's worth it.
Of course paying for a service will 9 out of 10 times be alot more useful than a free service, but the thing is that the PSN is something that casual online gamers will be enticed too, I know that several on this website are willing to pay whatever it is for XBOX Live, but you need to think about the people who aren't actually going to use the online service that much, if I only wanted to play XBOX Live once every week or so then I wouldn't want to be paying $50 for it would I?

For all thats made of having to pay for xbl for online gaming, seriously, it works out to cost less than 2 middies of beer a month.

Even if you only use it once a week for a good gaming session it's like, just over a buck per week, for what is pretty much a flawless network that gives fantastic online performance on even pretty ordinary broadband connections.

Its hardly a massive drawback, even for the casual gamer. So yeah, i don't think your average bloke will baulk too much at having to pay a pretty piddly amount for a good gaming experience.

You'd be suprised, how many people wouldn't want to spend that on the 2 middies a month?

And I wouldn't necessarily think the price would be the first thing they would look at, they might see "FREE ONLINE FOR PS3", whereas the XBOX says "PAY FOR XBOX LIVE" and that could be the instant seller to the PS3.

XBL may work out pretty cheap when you look at it like that Mancey, but you can't pay it off like that otherwise there would be a lot more people playing IMO. There would be a lot of people on a budget that would struggle to find the $100 in-one-go payment you can only subscribe to XBL with. But there are other alternatives anyway. like the 3 month and 6 month XBL packages.
