Good on you Rory for showing a lot of courage after being slamdunked on Friday night. With a couple of broken ribs i think he's got, was courageous to stay on like you did.

Good on the Collingwood player - think it was Malloy - for seeing how he was after he was hurt. Good stuff.

Might not be a great footballer Rory, but he's definitely not soft IMHO.

If it is indeed broken ribs, that is now twice Rory has had his season ended by brave, selfless acts of courageousness in the last two years.

Whatever has been said before of his lack of application and commitment needs to be redressed. Not forgotten, but redressed.

Personally, I've had, and still do have, my doubts on his overall value to the team as an individual. Potentially he is that dangerous floating forward who palys tall but still has deft skills at ground level. At worst, he appears lazy and, at times, apathetic. However, I also believe that we need to ensure that this guy is at Tigerland next year.

There is a bigger picture here.

His fellow players, and those coming through the draft, need to see how we as a club treat those who are prepared to put their body and personal safety on the line for the Tiger jumper. That we reinforce such selfless acts. (Duncan Kellaway has been doing it for a decade - as such, we have rightfully overlooked his other obvious deficiencies - he is a fine example of someone who disregards his own self-preservation for the team)

There are quite a few players at Tigerland apart from Rory who are far less worthy of an act of generosity on behalf of the club.

a word of caution

This is the same scenario we saw with Hilton last year - a seaon ending act of courage that "guaranteed" him a place on the list for the next year....and then we saw a heap of performanaces this year that saw us all calling for his head.

Am not convinced he will survive the cull, Miller seems quite hard nosed and won't be fooled by one act that will reverse all the disappointing efforts he put in for the rest of the year. I think we should reward CONSISTENT hard, courageous AND skilful performances, otherwise we will end up with a list of occasionally good triers who aren't up to it skill wise . That is the criticism of D Kellaway, bottles of courage but not the player who will help us m,ake finals and win flags.

Sounds a bit harsh, but Rory's one effort on Friday night has not convinced me to forget the rest of this year and a few other years of ordinary performances. Sentiment needs to go out the window a bit at Tigerland, and hardnosed professionalism needs to take over.....as that is what we are calling for on numerous other threads.

I reckon there's a list of players who are being looked at - Hilton being one of them. They can't get rid of them all, but I think any of those players that show a modicum of courage would be in their favour.

I'll reveal a bit from Miller's email about what he sees in these efforts where he used Fleming as an example. He said of him:

"For example the Fleming selection was about ..who else was left and his attach on the ball being a great example of what we are trying to instill around here,Danny can use Fleming as a great example to others of "this is how you get a game""

You look at the Kangaroos and who they valued - King was an old recruit (ditto Fleming), both attack the ball and the man. I reckon Fleming style of game will keep him safe FOR NOW. Might help Rory a bit too - his injuries would be a cause for concern but.

Hilton was soft to start off with. It took him a while to actually get involved in the game. Great show of courage at least. Well done Rory!

He's a bit stiff actually. On the 2 occasions that he has shown an act of courage in the last two years he has suffered a nasty season ending injury. I don't see how Hilton is considered a tough courageous player when most of the time he will go out of his way to avoid contact. Sometimes you are just unlucky.
