Operations??

Well I'm going under the knife for my second operation on my ankle this weekend, should be on crutchers for about 6 weeks or so, then a pretty long rehab after that.

Which brings me to my question, what have other people on these boards had operated on, ankle??, knee??, appendix?? or much worse and how successful was the operation in the long run??

Yeh It's not good hey

I missed the last half of last season and will probably miss most of this season.
A year not being able to kick a footy is pretty hard, I have a newly formed sympathy to all those players out there with long term injuries, especially players like Reid, Mcmanus and co who have had to have multiple knee reconstructions and years out of footy.

My right knee last year. Missed half of last year and the operation was a success. 9 months today and i'm hoping to be back next weekend, which will be the second game in our league.

Good luck with your ankle freodocker. Hope your back on the field soon.

Yeah tell me about it. Its frustrating as hell especially if you want a big year. Also frustrating when the doctors dont know whats wrong with it. :p The doctors at the club told me I needed a reco, the docs at Olympic Park said I didnt then about a week later the physio told me I did.

Are you having the full ankle reconstruction or is it just mainly ligament damage?

I basically (if you could say that) completely busted all the ligaments in my ankle about 1 1/2 years back and at the same time managed to snap a few bones in my ankle. My first operation was to take snapped bones out and clean out the whole area (bone spurs and fragments around the place) as my ankle had a habit of locking. Did the rehab and it was feeling alright, went back to sport a few weeks ago and the pain pretty much came back straight away and it sorta seemed a bit dodgy when I wouldn't walk without limping. Turns out they missed the other side of the ankle thinking it was just ligament damage. Turns out another bone is snapped completely off over there and fragments are getting into the joint. So they need to go in this weekend and clean up the joint as best they can and take the snapped off bone out.
Either way ... it's not good, but better to have it sorted out finally (I hope) and that they actually have some idea what is wrong (it took them over 3 months to work it out the first time).
So here's hoping they get it sorted out.

Only operation I've ever been involved in was my mum's caesarian section. Now there's a nice mental picture for the lot of ya. I'm pretty sure it was reasonably successful.

Only had one operation, to remove an absyss on my back that I kept ignoring while I was on holiday in Sydney even though I was in enormous pain. Apparently by the time I got to the hospital in Melbourne with it, they were worried that if they left it much longer I might have gotten blood poisoning.

I'm still waiting to see whether I'll need surgery on my left ankle. I slightly fractured it 5 months ago and did a little bit of ligament damage, which sounds like nothing compared to your injury freodocker, but it's not healing. The chip of bone hasn't healed and never will. That might not be a problem except for the fact that I'm still feeling pain in there, especially making the hike up to the southern stand on Saturday night. Stairs and uneven surfaces are really bad.

I was told I won't need surgery, but the fact that it is still causing me pain means that my phisio may send me back to the surgeon soon. Yeek. I'm really afraid of surgery so I'm really hoping it will just disappear.

Damn that doesn't sound good at all.
It's sorta weird that when you look at what is happening to you, there's always someone worse off. When I was recovering the first time in hospital I was sharing a room with a guy who was about 30 and had just had multiple surgery for a knee replacement. Sorta puts things in perspective.

But to the same extent whatever happens to you weather it be poppa or bruce and their knees or your ankle the pain is very real for you ......

I had my tonsils removed when i was...3 or 4
I had my adnoids removed when i was about 10
I had my shoulder reconstructed when i was 16
I had my wisdom teeth out when i was 18

they are the only ops ive had

I was born with catteracts over both lenses in my eyes. I had 3 eye operations before I was 2 years old to remove both lenses in my eyes and another eye operation when I was 15 to stop my eyes wobbling as much. I now wear contact lenses.

Cheers!! :)
