Quick question, is it just me or has Richmond got the most players in the afl who literally use their opposite foot for balance and balance alone.

Guys like hislop, Edwards, Newman, vickery and by far the worst is Nahas don't even look capable of swinging the leg. Nahas is borderline embarrassing with some of his outside of the right foot efforts.

Thoughts?

I'm not trying to say every other player is perfect because clearly we have several deficiencies, but these guys are professional footballers, full time athletes and one of the most basic skills is made to look like a completely foreign thought

I wish we had have used our other foot for balance yesterday, guys going to ground in the contest the whole match killed us.

I don't think we are any different to other teams, we have some who are very good on their opposite foot.

No doub there are some guys who are very good on their opposite, guys like deledio, cotchin, riewoldt and even Martin when he decides to use it are all very good.

But was at the game yesterday with my brother and to quote Terry Wallace if I saw Nahas or hislop try and outside of the right foot again I'll spew up. This is not a knock on these two guys coz I actually like both of them, but just an observation

Why? Hislop's pass on the outside of his boot was a pearler

Your right, maybe hislop was a bad example but the one that stands out to me is the one Nahas attempted in the 2nd quarter, half forward flank facing away from our goals and attempted a right foot banana kick to a target 5m away

This has been a bugbear of mine. You were taught in U13's onward to kick the ball with both feet, handball either side. Yet here we have grown men who cannot meet the minimum standards of their own profession. Drives me nuts ! The other bugbear is when they kick the ball along the ground when they are having a shot at goal. You are allowed to kick the ball above the defender's head. Just one more while we are at, players wanting to kick boomerangs instead of straightening up and kicking drop punts.

PS - Don't get me started on our tackling & shepparding......or lack there of.

Ok I feel better now.

Glad i am not the only one who has noticed this. Me and my brother were tearing our hair out watching the complete lack of non preffered kicking and missed tackles. Would love to have seen our missed tackle count yesterday. Again dont mistake this for me knocking the club our players because i think we are definately on the right track and am loving some of the work of the young players...just these little things frustrate me

leon cameron was sublime on either foot, best kick I've seen on a tiger player.

LMAO.....worried about kicking with the opposite foot? How about we first address kicking with the preferred foot, so we dont have to worry all to much about kicking with the opposite. ;)

Alright, I will pay that but AFL Footballers should be able to properly dispose of the ball on either side of their body by hand or foot.

No its not just us.
The lack of the non preferred foot is prevelant all accross the AFL.. I think it is probably the pressue of not wanting to make a mistake so they run with the preferred foot or hand.

LMAO..i am having some trouble trying to picture that dude..is this where modern footy is headed..will we see an influx of players running around on hand stands? Cant wait to see a pack marking contest with all the legs reaching up for the mark..;)

Its an 'evolutionary' game, anything is possible :D

Id take take the leathal one footer with ok opposite over the verygood both footer in general.

You forgot Grigg, clearly the worst offender. Whilst a player should be able to kick with both feet, one-sided players like Newman and Houli (and Bowden in years past) actually have the poise to prevent it being a serious weakness. Grigg has been caught out numerous times this year because of how one-sided he is, and it's killed us.

nahas by far the worst! he cant even handball left hand and will even try and handball an inside out handball with his right that just looks plain awkward. i have harped on this in previous posts before. nothing new here!

the thing that gets me if you practice these things you can improve in no time, and being elite footballers surely the coaches would have picked up these skill issues by now and working hard with them in training trying to get their skills up on these areas.

having alot of left footers accounts for this as they are notorious for failing to use wrong foot

yep, spot on, just like the dawks complain about having Hodge, Guerra, Rioli, Lewis, Young & Buddy and there are others but I cant be ****ed, who all to a man never use the opposite foot. You can add Mitchell to that and he is a right footer, ever see him kick with the opposite? I havent...

Lets put it this way, our inability to kick with opposite foot aint what our problems are, if we get to the point where we execute Dimma's game plan without the bucketload of mistakes, we wont have to use the opposite foot.;)
