Carlton & Crippa are looking amazing tonight.

There is hope for us, we can easily fly up the ladder, Saturday will be a big one. No reason why we can't take down Melbourne

Not knocking you guys down, just an observation that Carlton’s “youngsters” are a couple of years older than yours.

There list is really built around their 2015 to 2018 draftee’s (and traded in players).

Where as, I look at your list, and it’s really built from the 2018 draft and onwards.

Yeah, you got a couple of kids from 2016 & 2017 as well, but the core of your list is from ‘18 and ‘19.

If you can trade in a couple more quality mature age players, I can see you guys giving the top 8 a real shake next year, and becoming a top 8/4 regular from 2024 onwards.

Suns line-up against Melbourne this Sat:
12 mature players plus

2 players 6th year Fiorini, Ainsworth (2016)
2 players 5th year Ballard, Powell (2017)
3 players 4th year Lukosius, Rankine, Graham (2018)
3 players 3rd year Rowell, Sharp, Anderson (2019)
1 player 2nd year Davies (2020)

Average age 24 years 11 months. Average game experience 83 games. Next year Suns will be entering a sweet profile window.

Do you remember Lions players profile when they made first finals under Fagan 3 years ago? Lions round 1 line-up 2019:
2 players 6th year - McStay, Gardiner
1 player 5th year - Andrews
2 players 4th year - Hipwood, Mathieson
3 players 3rd year - McCluggage, Berry, Witherden
2 players 2nd year - Rayner, Bailey

I may missed someone but it seems that Suns will play 11 players in 6th year or less this weekend and Lions had 10. If you look at players in 3rd year or less Suns will play 4 players this Sat, Lions played 5 players in round 1 2019. Did Lions have more talent in 2019 than Suns now? I would say no. Getting Neale was a key for Lions, IMHO.

No reason why Suns can't play finals with some luck. Having no injuries like Lions had in 2019-2020 would help. In 2021 Suns did win 7 games without ruck while 1 year younger and affected by injuries again. This year 10 wins is a reasonable expectation. No doubt missing King hurts the chances.

Not sure Suns need to get more quality mature players to boost best 22 next off-season unless it's a top quality. I don't expect all those talented players above plus Bowes, Flanders, King who will be mostly in their 4-6th year in 2023 to sit on the bench. In 2023, I would expect Jeffrey, Hollands in their 3rd and Budarick in 4th year to play more too. Then there will be Moyle, Andrew, Brock in 2-3rd year waiting for opportunity. If anything some mature depth players may have to go next off-season (Corbett, Burgess).

It’s the quality of mature ager.

Ours were Neale, Lyons, Zorko, Rich, Steph Martin (before he fell off a cliff), Mitch Robinson, Cameron, McCarthy.

I am pretty happy with Witts, Miller, Collins,, Weller, Swallow, Holman, Ellis, Lemmens, Sexton, Chol, Casboult.
Even better if I could have King instead of Casboult :)

In 2019, players like Cameron, McCarthy, Lyons were far from what they produced in the following years.

As I said Neale was a great get and made a big difference. But even with him I doubt Lions would make finals in 2019 if they had injuries as their depth was limited. I am pretty sure Lions would struggle in 2019 if Martin went down plus his 3 backups early in the season.

Have Suns had the same luck with injuries last year who knows where they would have finished. Let's see this year. You need luck with injuries on top of list quality and Lions certainly had it in the first 4 years under Fagan.

FWIW, this year Lions best 22 look primed and have much better and more experienced depth and are my favourite to win it all together with Melbourne.

On the Lions board, before the Neale trade, I was pretty consistent in saying I didn’t believe we’d make finals until 2021, more likely 2022.

If you’re a team primarily building through the draft, with a lack of top caliber experienced players, it takes until your kids reach that 24 to 26 age bracket.

The additions of Neale, Lyons, McCarthy, Adams and Cameron made a significant difference to our best 22 in 2019. Then add Daniher and Cockatoo.

I’m not trying to knock you guys down, just saying there is a significant difference in the quality of mature agers added.

I’d say Weller, Collins and Ellis are close. But not enough.

The big difference is, you have a lot more quality young players than we do.

I know you are not knocking us down. I did not suggest that. All I am saying is that Lions 2019 vs Suns 2022 are quite similar regarding list quality, profile. Lions actually made top 2 in that year from 15 previous year. Daniher, Cockatoo came later.

Surely Witts qualify as a quality mature player. If you mention Robinson, I for sure can include Holman.

Yes, more quality young talent on Suns list hence don't really need quality mature players unless you can get Neale quality. Next year most of that young talent will be 4-7 years in the system.

Get some luck and Suns could make the finals this year. Do I expect it? No. In 2023? Yes.

Sorry, I should have clarified the difference in quality mature talent already on the list, versus traded in.

I’ve mentioned on here previously I believe you’re about 3 quality mature agers short of where our list was at, in 2019.

Some of the guys you mentioned, I don’t count as quality, and view more like make weights (similar to how I viewed Birchall in our best 22).

Just personally I believe you’re a quality KPD and good KPF away from something similar to where our list was at in 2019.

But that’s just my opinion.

Disagree, but that's OK. Just different opinions.

Would love for a Cameron (AA small forward), Neale (Brownlow medallist midfielder) and a Daniher ((AA KPF) to fall into our lap. Brisbane are a 6-12 side without those three. Just isn’t going to happen for us though.

I was shocked at how thin the bulldogs looked last night.

They obviously had a couple missing but
A fair few battlers and young players still finding their way,

Max King is on fire.

Have to wait another year to see his brother play........ ah well

Angus Brayshaw from Melbourne apparently unhappy as he is playing off half back instead of as an Inside Midfielder. Finished in the top 3 in the 2018 Brownlow medal count when he played as an inside midfielder. If he decides to exercise his free agency rights we should definitely throw our hat into the ring. We need a proven talented ball winning senior inside midfielder. Would lead the way with Rowell and Ando.

Would love him but we're probably a 0.01% chance even if we had to pay overs which we would have to.
