G'day guys,
There's a bit of a thread going at the blue view about this. Was wondering if you preferred the Doggies playing at Optus, or are you happier now that they are at Colonial?

Personally I enjoyed Optus Oval better. Enjoyed the open air atmosphere, the social club spot and with all our supporters sitting together and creating noise you felt there was a real home ground advantage. Plus other club hate playing there so already you have an advantage. Plus the break even is much lower. Oh heck why the hell don't we move back. I'm serious too!

I'd like to look at the figures re the losses but from what I understand we would be better off at Optus financially. Can't see the benefits of Telstradome outweigh that.

I liked both grounds, but it is costing us so much to play at telstra dome. I dont think we have a real advantage playing there, we semed to have a bigger advantage playing at optus, so id be happy to go back there. Plus other teams dont like playing there so thats more of an advantage to us.

Defintely optus. I hate being indoors with artificial lighting etc... Id be rapt to play half our games at Optus, our big games at the G and the rest at colonial when we have to.

Sounds good stefoid

I loved Optus. Got to sit next to the cheersquad behind the goals near the front with only needing my membership to get in. It also had a great atmosphere with all the Dog fans together. I also liked having a kick on the ground after the game and waiting around for Simon Minton-Connell

Optus is a hole. There's no parking, not enough seats, can't be played at at night, no cover if it rains.

As a club we need to be seen as moving foreward and looking proffesional, not moving back to crappy grounds that look like they're the home of a VFL club. It's outdated. Colonial is so much better.

I think thats the best part of going to the footy, sitting or standing in the rain

Colonial is so much better.

It may be a better ground and all that, but it is costing us so much more to play games there.

I liked Optus because we used to win there more than lose. Has it pros but anything that involves helping out Carlton I'm against.

Not that Telstradome is any better, why can't we play at the G? Know 96 was a bad year but we are better than then.

I was a fan of optus but its probably not viable. The only thing that gave me the ****s about optus was the ball constantly bouncing at right angles on the grounds surface. How many times did you see the ball land on the goal line and bounce backwards away from goals?

As far as comfort goes seating and veiwing wise i would have to say telstra. But as far as costs i would have to say Optus other than that anything to help carlton im against and as far as optus goes for veiwing it is a hole not one of my favurite grounds at all.

Whilst I enjoyed Optus while we playing there, compared to Telstra Dome it is the pits. Those dirty, smelly, leaky toilets!!!!

Would prefer the MCG if we ever have a choice.

I didn't mind Optus but there's no way we should go back.

The Club, the AFL and Telstra Dome management simply have to make the place work. All 3 need it.

How come they AFL can afford to schedule <10000 people Wizard Cup nothing games at the place and yet we lose money on 25000 during the season?

telstra dome is great ground but if we are losing money then i think we should move back to optus i think it would be a great move i loved playing at optus i hope we go back

Optus was an awful ground to get to and get away from after a game. For convenience Docklands is far superior. It's much easier to get to from the west by car and train. The facilities are so much more superior to Optus that there is no comparison. Financially it's such a shame that Telstra Dome hasn't provided the income that the club was led to believe it would. Unfortunately it doesn't seem that there is a suitable alternative at this stage so we'll be there for a while.

Optus Oval would be my choice.

We played excellent football there, and I dare say had an advantage over teams there.

I could sit in front of the goals without it costing me an arm and a leg.

You could go out onto the ground after the game and have a kick.

Basically, Telstra doesn't compare.

OK I when I have to make a choice I find it quite helpful to write up a list of pros and cons for each option, so kids here goes.

TELSTRA DOME

PROS
- It has a roof
- Spencer St Station makes it mega easy to get to
- Holds about double what OO can hold
- High amount of corporate boxes
- Makes us look a bit more professional than playing at OO

CONS
- Surface is ****e
- The fact that is holds about double the max at OO is pretty useless when half it is empty.
- 20% of Melbourne's population has to turn up for us to make a profit playing there.

OPTUS OVAL

PROS
- You only need about 14, 000 to turn up to make a profit
- You can get gourmet sausages
- Um my mobiles with Optus

CONS
- It sucks

Um I think TD wins via default

A move back to Optus might be helping Carlton out, but bear in mind that they are on their knees trying to pay back the ground and we might be able to get a very good deal.

Then again, with Collins being a representative of Telstra Dome, I suppose you wouldn't bet on it.
