Roast Optus Slowing Down Downloads

I just got onto Optus tonight but I try to download Torrents and won't go any faster then 220kbps. I was with exceed connet and I use be able to download at over a MB per Second.

Has this happened to other people and is it Fixable?

Check your internet speed at http://speedtest.net
Click "begin test" and let me know the speeds that appear for upload and download.

I've been doing some research for you about Optus throttling torrents and it seems a few others have complained about the same issue although Optus themselves state they are not throttling torrents and p2p. (Could be lying)

I been doing my own tests.

At the Moment I am trying ibvpn on a Free Trial and When I have it on it downloads at the Normal Speed as I had before.

I be Shocked IF Optus and Other Companies admit to it.

My Tests could say Otherwise

Some isp's throttle speed for torrents. Not sure if Optus do. I'm with Vividwireless & I know they do. So I use a VPN.

Just curious, why'd you move to Optus? Is it NBN?

Telstra aren't throttling my torrents on NBN.

But I've been reading a huge amount now about Optus being sneaky bastards with their business practices.
I've concluded that they probably do throttle torrents.

About 5 years ago my Mum had a huge horror story with Optus where they accepted her for a plan and took her money and then told her there were no ports available in the area and said she would have to wait up to 6 months for internet. This is when we had perfectly functioning telstra net beforehand. We had to call the ombudsman to get cut off from Optus.

I tell everyone to steer clear from them.

Because my Mum said they where the Cheapest she could get.

We don't get the NBN until Mid Year at the Earlist.

Optus showing they are Corrupt/Liers but leads a lot of Money to go to VPN's. VPN are good have Secure Connections and stay Private on the Internet. So not just for Throttling the Internet.

IF something bad Happens I sure will take it far to get out of our Contract.

Though my Mum seems very happy at the Moment with there Service. 5 Years is a Long Time

Yes, 5 years is a long time. Even though that experience with Optus was 5 years ago I doubt they have changed much.
All Australian ISP's are in it for the money. Telstra give you the best performance but it costs a shit ton. Optus offers a middle ground for those who like bundles, but I've found that they do sneaky shit all too often. The rest of the ISP's are just small fish in a big pond. (No telstra bigpond pun intended.)

I know your Mum is happy. But are you happy? Does using a VPN fix the torrenting issue?

I am okay with it as I have found the VPN DOES Fix the Torrenting Issue:D I can also get around the Blocking that they are Trying to do:thumbsu:. VPN's are Rather Cheap as I found a Package for PIA that is Under $5 a Month:thumbsu:

We don't have a Stack of Money:'(

Agree the ISP are just in for the $$$ but with a VPN I can stick it up Foxtel and Villages where the Sun does not Shine:rainbow::D

Awesome to hear! Vpn's can fix a lot of Australia's problems but we shouldn't have them problems in the first place. :(

Also, the fact that a VPN does fix the speed with torrents does mean that Optus are throttling torrent downloads through their own network.

They should really put this on the terms and conditions but of course they won't, evil bastards.

They would not say that Publicly because they know NO ONE would use them.

Though I probably use a sock5 Proxy thru uTorrent to get around it as lot of Trackers are not big fans of People Browsing the Tracker with a VPN:'(

VPN I am going to use:

Dave just get an android box & install Kodi. Youtube will show you what to do next. You will never need torrents for anything ever again. I use NordVPN. Very secure but a little slow compared to others. Ipvanish has good reviews.

I have a Android Box with Kodi. Not set up yet

I use PrivateInternetAccess for my VPN

That is an interesting article because even though using a VPN shields your privacy, authorities link your credit card usage.
Still unable to prove sites you visit though.

VPN does not make you 100% Anonymous but does a good job though
