In Flanders Fields where poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
Weare the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be it yours to hold high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Fields.
John McCrae, "In Flanders Fields"
Today, 11 November, 2006, is Rememberance Day, aka Veteran's Day in the USA. Please stop what you are doing at 11 AM SHARP and take two minutes to silently reflect your thoughts on the brave men and women who fight for freedom, and remember those who did not come home alive.
...They shall not grow old as we are left to grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning
We will remember them.
