I must admit I was quiety disappointed when last years trade fell through. I was even more disappointed when our kpp's started going down like nine pins at the start of they year. But in hindsight, pick 16 would have been way too high for White. I'm quite suprised he hasn't come on as many, including myself, expected.

Do you think he will be a player? Looks like Tarzan in the SANFL, plays like Jane in the AFL.

One year down the track, if we had the opportunity again, would you trade for him assuming a normal draft ( ie not the super draft )? If so, what pick is he worth?

Did I read somewhere Port have signed both he and Thustans until the end of 2008?

I thought he'd turn into a really good player too.

His year has been disappointing given that Tredrea has been out of the side and he has had plenty of opportunities. He just doesn't strike me as being aggressive enough in the air. A little bit in the Daniel Schell and Scott Stevens (as a forward) mould. It might have been a blessing in disguise that the trade fell through.

I probably wouldn't go for him at the end of the year. Our key forward stocks (Hentschel, McGregor, Perrie) are adequate but our first draft pick needs to be on a key forward. I think we have enough young midfielders and ruckmen, and in Bock and Rutten we have two excellent young key defenders.

The age of our KPP's means that we can use the draft to replenish the stocks rather than player trades.

In our system this year he probably would have looked quite good, like several of our mediocre players. I wasn't keen on him at the time, though. Not for pick 16 anyway.

Agreed he has done absolutely nothing to warrant the hype he gets, Hentschel is MILES ahead of him. He has had his chance to step up this year and hasnt. All we have heard for years from Port fans is he is the great white hope well my nickname for him is the great white hype!

He just isn't given the chances he deserves. He has just accepted a contract extension too, which I am quite happy about. He is treated like a 2nd tier player, that is made avaliable when others go down, when he is capable of being in the starting 22 every week.

"Isn't given the chances he deserves" He's played 14 of 16 games, missing at least one ( that I know of ) with an injured hand. He's kicked 12 goals in 14 games this year. In 9 of 14 games he has been kept goalless. Damning statistics I would have thought. Time for a permanent move either to the backline or out the door.

Prior to this year, he was not given enough chances. This year he has been all over the place, and has spent a lot of time on the bench.

Fair enough. However, time for a move to the backline me thinks.

I think he is more suited to playing up forward.

Must be a horrible backman then.. :D

I saw him play a game for North last year in the backline and he absolutley slaughtered the opposition.

We are covered down back IMO. We rotate our talls up forward way too much.

The best thing that has happened to White this season is the pathetic form of Toby Thurstans. Pretty much guaranteed he would play in the 22 and get a contract extension.

Thurstans played the worst game I have ever seen against North at Adelaide Oval in the first half of the season. He played on Gill who kicked 6 goals on him in the second quarter then limped off with a "hip injury" soon after. The injury was severe enough for him to miss 0 games.

And you can therefore understand our dissapointment when the trade last year to Hawthorn for pick 20 odd did not go through.:(

Pick 20 for Thurstans, this would have to be the biggest steal in the history of AFL. I was thinking trade time if we came away with a slice of Cheese for Thurstans you would take it, let alone a pick around 20.

Ohh well he has played 2 or 3 serviceable games in what 10 years, he is probably due to lock in serviceable game 4 in the next 2 years.

Not a port fan guys but could nt agree more, White came throught the junior ranks with my nephew in WA so I kept an eye on him and everyone (media/club/supporters) seems to have massive wraps on him for little result, did nt show heaps as a 16-18yr old eithier. I have nt seen his SANFL form though, seems like he s injury prone (same as a junior) must be frustrating for you fans.

White is probably on a par with Scott Stevens although Stevens can play back and forward.

If he was going to be that good his performances would demand a position

I reckon he'd have gone alright at Adelaide had the trade come off. Craig would've got him to slap on 5-10kg of muscle and played him out of the goalsquare with a defined role being force fed by your array of midfielders. He would've been good for 50-60 goals. Choco has him running times like a midfielder and uses him like a giant wingman or sends him to the square before he disappears to the wing again. I doubt he has a defined role - and his confidence is down.

Try again.

Unfortunately I see it pretty much the same as you FF.
Dunno about 50-60 but quite a few more than he will score at Port.

Sounds like great tactics - i'm guessing McGuiness is still your forward coach.

Honestly, what were Hawthorn thinking!!

Thurstans is a dead set 100% gold plated dud!! My step-son, who is a Port fanatic, tells me he has played 2 good games for Port in his career. One was the GF win and the other was just the benefit of doubt that there might have been another one!!

I was damned pleased that we didn't give pick #16 for White last year, although I would have considered a late 2nd rounder. Not sure what his problem is because at times there appears to be a damn sight more talent than he actually gives.

To be honest, IMO he's been damn poor this year and just hasn't stood up when needed. He wouldn't get a spot in our side on this season's form.
