I hope this bloke gets caught and to be honest I hope it is not by the Police, well not initially anyway.

What do people think this persons punishment should be if/when caught? If someone is killed in these fires I hope they get murder. As it is, they should get some serious time for destroying peoples lives and terrorising people for an extended amount of time.

Last night I had to sit with a friend as we watched her house which contained her parents inside get totally surrounded by flames. We just had to sit there and hope that the water bombers did their job. Luckilly they did, although another friends Father was not so lucky and lost his house.

I just cannot believe or understand what goes through someone's head when they can do such a thing.

Me either and like you said "I Pity the fool"

While one part of me wants to lock this maggot up in a burning building to see how much he enjoys it, I believe they should, at the very least, throw the book at him (or her).

Give him 20 years and see how many people want to copycat. At the moment, there is no real deterrent to stop this thing happening.

The current fire near Mt Bold is EXACTLY where we spent xmas day-in the middle of Kuitpo Forest. Hubby has heaps of rellies up that way and it makes me so frustrated that they can't catch the basket case that would do this sort of thing. No penalty is too harsh. Send the idiot to Guantanamo Bay on some trumped up charges.

Worst part about it is that apparently a lot if not most of the firebugs turn out to be volunteer firefighters.

You haven't seen Backdraft then?

* Warning: spoiler for bad 90s action movie ahead *

The firebug who sets fires across the city is the disgruntled fireman.

How can you prove that???

There is plenty of evidence that many fires are started by volunteer firefighters. What should not be lost in this though, is that 99.9999% of firefighters are community minded individuals who do a brilliant job under extreme circumstances.

As a victim of Ash Wednesday in 83 (we lost our house), I have total admiration for these guys as these situations are terrifying. You are always going to get the odd pyro who is drawn to the CFS/CFA etc due to the proximity it allows them to fire, but this should not colour the perception of the overwhelming majority.:thumbsu:

If you want some examples, just do a Google on 'volunteer firebug'.

Take him out the back and introduce him to rule 303

There was a tv series on that many years ago called fire i think Australian show Peter Phelps Georgie Parker was in it

That was based on that very thing one of the fire fighters was starting them

I think you can make that 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999% and I too have nothing but admiration.
Unfortunately all it takes is one idiot to spoil it for many.

Not my saying, like others have said there have been many studies done on that matter.

Sorry but your either a pyromaniac or you arent, has nothing to do with being a CFA volunteer, being a CFA volunteer doesnt change that fact.

If you want/desire get a kick out of lighting a fire you will.

actually a lot of these sort of people join the cfa after they know what they are... then they start the fires and become heros by putting them out... there is some special name for the condition they suffer but im too tired to think of it

This took me only a second or two to find using google and their figures reflect what most on here have said.
We are only talking of around 30 out of 70,000 or 0.04% but 30 can start many fires over a few years.

You made it sound as if that is your sterotpyical CFA volunteer that they were all fire bugs, which was never ever going to be the case, 30 out of 70000 is a very low number and has no real concern, as I said if you are a pyromaniac you are going to light a fire weather you are part of the CFA or not.
