Anyone who is interested former Adelaide Crows and Norwood premiership player Steven Rowe participated in the New York marathon. Steven Rowe finished the marathon in 3 hours and 40 mins :D

Steven Rowe is a very funny guy who brings the 5AA commentary to a new level and it’s always a lot more enjoyable when is commentates a game of football. Keep up the good work Roewie

So he reached his goal of getting it done in under 4 hours??????

Well done Rowey. He worked his arse off (and it was a HUGE ass :p ) to get into shape for this thing and its great to see him get it done within the time limit he set himself.

Well done Rowey!!!!!! :thumbsu:

Loved Rowey's comments this am about Penelope Cruz.

He said he'd met her, and I was waiting for him to start drooling - but he came up with she's got false lips, false boobs, false this, false that - she's made of plasticine!! :D

He's so biased when calling games its awesome :D
He gets passionate thats for sure.

I was at one of the games, seated right in front of the 5AA comentary box. I am not sure who we were playing but I know the umpires were stinking it up BIG time. All of a sudden you hear this banging on the glass window and Rowey screaming at the top of his lungs, having a crack at the umpires :D.

He goes over the top sometimes but there are times when he comes out with a pearler or two.

top effort, i want to run either the NY, Boston or London marathon one day, awesome effort.

I ran the NY Marathon in 1999 and I have great respect for anyone who does it because the pollution is just stifling. My lungs were burning for a week after and I felt generally unwell for a couple of days. My time was 3 hours 14 min and 12 sec. which I was pretty happy with considering how I felt. Great experience though.

Well done Rowey mighty fine effort. But let's not go overboard on the praise. His comments on the radio are at best embarrasing. "Funny" I would suspect Rowey's humour would be a hit with the over 80's, the Ray Martin groupies. No one but the English should be allowed to use cockney slang.

i never knew that. Is this common knowledge is it?
The marathon commemorates the Greek soldier Phidippides who ran 42km (26 miles) from the battlefield at Marathon to Athens, to announce Greek victory over the Persians (490BC). He delivered his one word message – ‘Nenikamen’ (we have won) – and then collapsed and died.

LOL, I hope that was sarcastic??
If not, it's 42 km approx - same as every other marathon ever run!

I was actually being serious. I can't say i'm a marathon enthusiast, although my wife........never mind........like a tiger.

So it's 42k's, there you go you learn something new everyday.

If they had won the battle, why didn't he just walk, why the urgency? I'm sure the Greeks had won many battles before this one. I suggest other causes for his unexpected death, drug problem maybe-i'm thinking crack?
Fascinating. Where do you get all your historical stuff from PAF. I've been looking for descent sites for along time without luck. A mate suggested www.historyplace.com but it's pretty thin.

Historical atlases are very good. Great read when passing time.
Do a google search using that, there are heaps. Some better than others.
