Yeah, neither Jupiters or Treasury have no limit, although Treasury has half-pot limit.

Something about no games of chance are allowed except by government approval, and the Qld government approves Limit Holdem only.

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

As of today, Star City Sydney no longer have CCs for Limit Holdem.

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

I was up in noosa for the past week, which is why I haven't been whoring up the forums as of late posting my latest coolers.

Before I hit noosa though I spent a few days in sydney. Didn't get a chance to go to star city (nor could I really be bothered), but I did hit the pokerdome with a mate who lives close to where I was staying.

Pretty underwhelming.

They only play sit and go's, with buyins from 20 bucks up. You deal yourself, and there is a lack of personnel working.

The crowd is also very seedy. In the first SnG I was playing a fight nearly broke out on my table.

There was this one guy with his headphones on (player A) who thought he was some pro, and another guy across the table who was there with a mate, had been drinking, and was a bit rowdy (player B). Both were around 20-25 years old. Player B is on the phone in the middle of a hand, taking ages to make a decision while talking to his girlfriend, and then player A, who isn't in the hand tells him to hurry up because the blinds are going up. Player B rages, starts swearing and tells him he'll do whatever he wants. Anyway there an exchange of comments which results in player B suggesting they go outside.

Player B then gets involved in a hand with Player A, and pushes all in out of turn. When he is forced to check, he gets even more irritated and I wasn't sure whether I should be laughing or trying to find an exit.

Anyway the table calms them both down, but they are eyeing eachother and talking about eachother openly for the next 10 minutes. Then player A complains that player B who is a regular is motioning to friends for support. By this point I'd say there is a 80% chance of a fight breaking out if player B busts first. I think player A sensed this, and pushed in with a marginal hand to bust and then left.

I played another one, in which there was more tension between players based on some people's bad play, lack of dealing know-how, ect.

Admitedly, this did all occur at around 10pm+, so it was reasonably late, but it still isn't justification imo.

So between the jokerdome and crown and its dumb table fees, I'm yet to find a decent official place to play low buyin sngs....

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

Seems like Melbourne is missing out on this riveting action.

$20 for a donk & go & fight! Good value!

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

Looks like I'll be heading over to Adelaide in February ... for a backgammon tournament! But no doubt I'll visit Sky City Adelaide so I'll find out all I can and update the first post.

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

Wondering if anyone knows if Star City has had any changes to their set up.

Going down for Australia Day weekend and thought they may have a MTT.

Or is it just Pokerdome for that in NSW?

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

OK, here's how it went down. Went to SkyCity Adelaide at about 7:30pm. They had 3 tables running, 4/8 limit, 2/3 no limit and 3/5 no limit. I decided to play 2/3. Being such a small place, it seemed everyone knew each other. I started with $120, the max buy-in LOL. Played tight until I realised there were too many cheap flops. Guy to my right kept stacking off and buying back in. When he left, table captain (TC) said he'd lost close to $1000 .

I got HU with TC twice and he was wary of me but check-called me on the flop both times in position, and we checked it down from there. He had me both times. I built my stack up to $380 thanks to J9 which flopped top pair and rivered a straight, and JQcc on a T-9-8 flop when EP bets 45, I flat call, BTN pushes, EP folds, I call. He has JT.

So then comes one of my big leaks, never knowing when to walk away (I hear Kenny Rogers singing in the background). I managed to donk off my whole stack thanks to 4 hands:

- AJs which I let go on a AKQJ board to PF raiser and EP open bettor.
- JJ ran into KK
- JJ ran into KK again
- KK yippee! Oh, ran into AA.

So lost $120 overall . But I think there's easy money to be won, so I look forward to going back.

One gripe: they use BJ cards, so the rank/pip in the corner is very very small. s**t cards .

For anyone that plays in Adelaide, Rachael's a bit of alright :thumbsu:. She's a tall thin fiery redhead, some kind of poker boss.

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

Out-of-turn-bet rule in Adelaide

If someone bets out of turn, that bet stays in the middle, whether or not someone before them checks or bets any amount themselves.

At Crown, let's say OOT bettor bets 20. First player to act bets 50, OOP player can take their bet back and fold. In Adelaide, the money stays in.

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

From what I'm reading over at PNW, maybe I won't bother going to Jupiter's.

In fact, poker anywhere in Queensland sounds like a joke.

Adelaide was good.

I'll see if I can get to Tassie this year. Would try to arrange it around an AFL game.

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

hoping to go to Tassie casino this weekend.

anyone know anything about the poker there?

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

I think I provided enough info in the first post.

Call them and confirm, and when you get back, let us know of any info that would be useful for the rest of us.

One piece of advice is make sure the poker room is open when you go.

Re: Australian (and NZ) Casino discussion (except for Crown Casino)

Yeah i read all that stuff, hoping someone may be available to update on it.

Smartarse! Not every casino is closed on Sundays..
