Ottens to Crows?

Someone (Jars45) suggested 'Big Sexy' BO will be traded to Adelaide at the end of the season in exchange for the dynamic midfield duo of Simon Goodwin and Kane Johnson

This is fantasy stuff but I must say I'm attracted to the thought with Big Sexy's drop of in form of late.:p

But I mull it over again, and I remind myself 'Big Sexy' is just 22 and that 6 foot 5 mobile players don't grow on trees.

I would luv though for Goodwin to be at Punt Road .. He's an exciting, damaging, moxy-charged unit.:)

Love to you all.

And welcome aboard Redford

Who gets the feeling, I like the name 'Big Sexy'? :D

Neither do players who are 201cm tall (6' 7") and capable of running down quick little short people (hello Mr. Byron Pickett! :D )

The post from Jars458 (who normally is a sensible poster) is plain bollocks. As it is, Adelaide are in the drivers seat to get Carey in which case Otto would be reduced to a secondary foward role.

And if Adelaide got rid of Goodwin and Johnson - 2 of their 4 midfield guns - it would take away the impetus that drives them to get Carey.

Consider that the reason they are wanting Carey is to put a gun forward in front of those 4 midfielders, making them extremely hard to beat.

This Ottens to Adelaide homecoming thing is also a bit of a phallacy. Sure we did draft him from Glenelg but he only lived there for 2 years - before that he was from a propery in the Northern Territory. He is as much a South Australian as Nathan Buckley!

Thanks for the welcome.

'Big Sexy' for Goodwin and Johnson ?

Besides the fact that we should already have Johnson, it all sounds very, very far-fetched.

But yeah, having those "moxy-charged units" would be just what we need.

Uhhh didn't we just sign the Big Sexy for a couple of years a few months ago? Why would we wanna let The Big Sexy go? He's big and he's sexy what more do you need? :p I've heard that Otto wants to stay with the tiges anyway!

Sounds like crap though not as stupid as the rumour in the mid 90s that we would trade naish and daffy to melbourne for Neitz..Now that was a laugh..

What a great trade that would be. We would get two top liner midfielders, for a lumbering, overated, overpayed hack. Can we give them Gaspar too.

There was another muted trade with Melbourne at around about the same time Harry. At one point, Richmond were seriously interested in The Ox, despite his history of knee injuries !! And who did the Demons demand in return ? Benny Gale and Wayne Campbell !!! Not surprisingly, the deal never proceeded ...

Ottens a Tiger to 2004

Richmond today announced that star forward/ruckman Brad Ottens will stay with the club for at least the next two seasons, after signing an extension of his contract.

Ottens, one of the hottest young talents in the game, will stay at Tigerland until the end of 2004.

Richmond chief executive Mark Brayshaw was delighted to announce Ottens’ signing.

“We are thrilled to bits that in the last few days, Brad Ottens has extended his existing contract by two years to play with Richmond Football Club, and has committed himself until the end of the season 2004,” Brayshaw said.

“It goes without saying that everyone is thrilled. Brad has emerged as one of our most promising players, one of our best leaders and indeed one of the game’s best players.”

“We are absolutely delighted that he has agreed (to play at Richmond).”

Ottens, 22, was rapt to sign on the dotted line for another two seasons.

“It was just great to get it out of the way and to be able to concentrate on play footy, it’s great,” Ottens said.

After being recruited from Glenelg, Ottens said he had no reason to leave the Tigers, despite the potential lure of returning to South Australia.

“I had no reason to leave the club, so I thought why wait and put it off for another six months. I thought I’d just do it now and then concentrate on playing footy.”

Brayshaw said Ottens was a highly sought-after player, not just at Richmond, but in the football world and this was a major factor in the club re-signing him.

“He’s very well thought of here and of course, well respected by all the clubs.”

“It is thrilling and more importantly it allows us to get on and focus on this season, without having to deal with the on-going negotiations.”

“It was something that we started during the off-season and Elite Sports Properties and the Richmond Football Club have been dealing with this on and off for months. But Brad hasn’t had much to do with this at all and it always helps to get this thing done, before the season really gets up and running.”

While Brayshaw said he saw Ottens as a life-time Tiger, he said several issues had prevented the club from signing him to a longer deal.

“We see Brad as a Tiger forever. Having said that, there are uncertainties going forward about the TV rights and the TPP (Total Player Payments) information that we’re not yet aware of, so this is the next contract extension. I’d like to think it will be extended for a long while beyond now, but it doesn’t make sense really, in light of the uncertainty going forward.”

“I would interpret this as a signal from Brad that he loves Punt Road as much as we love him. And he wants to stay here for as long as he can still play football. Two years is fine.”

While Ottens is now signed up, Brayshaw said the Tigers are now focusing on extending the contract of superstar Matthew Richardson.

“We try and rank all of our players who come out of contract. Most players have got a two to three year deal so every year there’s about 30% of players who come out of contract. Brad and Matthew are at the top of our list, in terms of signing them.”

Richmond's most dangerous facet of their game is their height.

Ottens, Richo, Hall, Gaspar, Stafford can all be very hard to match up on....why change that?
