OK, so I've started taking my flabby body down to the gym thingy and it's killing me. Are my arms supposed to hurt like this? Is every keystroke supposed to send shockwaves of pain though my nervous system?

Sbagman.

Yes. Exercise is bad.

Firstly congrats for wanting to get fit & in shape,:D

Yes you are supposed to feel like that, have you experienced the hurting in your quads everytime you try to sit down or stand up, if not that is a beauty.

Remeber the fitness creed. "NO PAIN, NO GAIN".;)

Heh Heh, they are the muscles at the back of your thighs & trust me you will know soon enough.:D

No Sandie...they would be your hamstrings. Being an anatomy major...i would feel incredibly stupid if i didn't know this.

Your quads are a group of 4 muscles (please don't ask me to remember the names...i haven't got my old trust atlas infront of me...and it's been 4 years since i studied the lower limb) that stretch from the anterior and medial regions of the thigh. ;)

Lol, Topdon, you are right, I typed that in too much of a hurry cause my boss was hovering, wasn't thinking.

If I had of done that in my fitness leaders course I would have failed.

Try doing a whole pre-season of running, weights, drills...etc.

Very bloody hard work, and now I am injured, it has come to nothing! :(

Nah sandie, did the bench press thingies and the ones that work your shoulders. It all feels bad.

Don't worry, it gets easier. Tommorrow you'll probably be sorer (if that's a word).
Did the trainers start you on machine weights? Or did you do a "hero" job and go straight for the free weight bars?

I'm only going twice a week. I was shown what to do by my brother, who apparently is in the know (or full of poo, one or the other). I'm using the machine weight thingies but I'm not lifting that much which is really frustrating    .

Very good. Start light, you'll get there eventually. You may want to go more than twice a week if you want your strength to increase quicker. It's better lifting lighter to start with, rather than as heavy as you can, that's when you hurt yourself. ;)
