Just a question , Are we really happy with our assistant coaches?

I am not sold on them at all I we really need to chase some real quality assistants and the first on my hit list would be Jude Bolton thoughts please.

Why would Jude Bolton be a good assistant?

This could be controversial but I'd like to pick up Mark Harvey as an assistant.

Jude has just come out of the game and has played in a very successful side and under a very good system and also has a very good grasp of what the game requires , I also would love to have Voss on board. Harvey mmm not sure about him.

Matt Priddis should become a playing midfield coach. ;)

Hickmott is only first year as a full time assistant coach and the backs haven't been our worst area (arguably the best), Rawlings is only first year as full time assistant as well.

Longmuir is the only guy who survived the post Worsfold cull and is now into his 4th season. Not sure if his the right man as forwards coach but seems to be to well liked around the club to be moved on.

I know we've got Don Pyke but i'd love to see us hunt a midfield coach to specialise in stoppages and preferably someone who hasn't been out of the game in a playing/ coaching capacity for as long as the fossil Pyke. Jude Bolton would be great to have but I think his pretty settled in NSW so it would be hard to drag him away. I'd consider Voss, Ling or Kerr as more viable choices

An easy way to appraise assistant coaches is to look at the performance of their individual units then assess whether or not that coach appears to be a Head Coach in waiting. How you choose to come to that conclusion is based on your own metrics but I don't see HC material in West Coast's assistant ranks.

This is really my only criticism. The club isn't doing enough to build a solid midfield coaching group and I don't think Don Pyke has the credentials to be leading the charge. We desperately need a stoppages coach.

Pretty sure Voss was asked but he was more interested in media work and he does have the recruit coming out on Foxtel in July. I do think we need an experienced assistant to help Simmo for the next few years. Here are a few that could be looked at:

- Brett Ratten: Will have worked with Simmo at the Hawks and could offer some good experience.

- Darren Burgess: He is the reason why Port are so fit and this is what we need! I have heard we tried to poach him last year and he was considering it. Offer him what ever he would be worth it.

- Voss: He will probably want to stay in the media but they should try convince again to convince him to be an assistant.

Wonder why Kerr wasn't kept as a midfield coach/analyst/mentor? Twice 2nd and once 3rd in the Brownlow, plus he bleeds Blue and Gold.
Kerr with all his ability was never a great leader and certainly not a great role model.

You have to ask the question about Scott Burns.
He is highly regarded and was considered for the senior role at WC but he was the midfield coach.
Enough said.
