It has been bloody frustrating having Clark, Hogan and Dawes on the side lines and further, Gawn and Jamar have been missed in the ruck too.
One good thing has come of this however.
We haven't masked what is a serious deficiency in our list.
Before we see how any of the aforementioned talls perform, we already know that there are certain players who just can not perform at AFL level and are staring down the barrel regardless of which other players come back into the side.
I am a realist, I don't expect wins or any of our make-shift talls to be leading the Coleman or dominating the stoppages under these circumstances but we have a real list problem.
Spencer, Fitzpatrick and Pedersen are seriously not up to AFL standard. They all try in their own way but they aren't even good enough to be 2nd string. There are so many 2nd string players in the AFL who perform way better it isn't funny.
We need to recruit at least two rucks from other clubs who are at least competent, have decent athleticism and can use their height/body to advantage. Preferably experienced or good enough but simply being kept out due to better options.
We also need at least two tall forwards of the same ilk.
They don't have to be champions, they just have to be competent and have genuine scope for improvement.
I realise there is a big 'no shit Sherlock' aspect to this OP but I think some times it takes a disaster for it to sink in and in a twisted kind of way I think we will be much better off for this in the long run. Roos won't cop this next year and given his record so far hopefully he can grasp some better tall options than what we did under Neeld.
This thread is obviously for discussing our tall player situation but is also for discussing our recruiting options as the year progresses. Players not getting games at other clubs or want to come back to Victoria, VFL players worth a punt even the draft etc, ideas and discussion here.
