the only tag suitable for it is universal love, we have some exceptional kids coming through!

it honestly does boil the blood of opposition supporters and teams, to think geelong after all its success has quality kids coming thru to keep them up the top, i keep hearing non stop dribble such as

" they look good because they play for geelong" or "they will be no good once seniors go"

its funny how it works, there was non stop talk at the end of last year how caddy was a future "star" of the competition and a special talent at the gold coast, he walks into geelong, and instantly we have several of our own kids all infront of him in the pecking order

smedts... horlin smith, guthrie, kersten, vardy, motlop, caddy, christensen, duncan

after GWS and GCS we must have close to the best youth in the AFL

We have amazing youth.
Duncan, Bundy and poodle have already stamped themselves as genuine top 22 players, all 3 look likely to play over 200 games for the club.
Motlop, with some improvement could be a superstar of the game, he just needs to work on decision making and playing the percentages. He has Cyril like ability except he gets it 10-15 times more and doesn't fade in and out as much as Cyril.
In Vardy, Menzel and ill put Simpson here, we have some genuine top talent that's struggling with injury, those 3 could be anything if they can get fit.
Guthrie, George, Murdoch, smedts, caddy, thurlow and kersten all show something to hint at a potential long and successful career (some maybe even better).
We also have some talent running around that's yet unproven like shredder, burbury, bews, eardley etc

Some names in there that can do nothing but excite cat fans about the potential future.

Motlop doesn't get it 10-15 times more than Rioli.

Come on SJ! Don't be a spoiled sport. Senatorguesty is just adding a little bit of............well, colour to the story for dramatic purposes.;)

We have unbelievable youth, some cracking young guys coming through and some are already top players in our ones. Wells seriously is the best, he has picked all the right guys so far. It really is unreal how we are 7-0 sitting on top of the ladder in 2013, with an entirely different team to the one that dominated season 2007.

Smedts, Guthrie, HS, Caddy, Bundy, Poodle, Menzel, Duncan, Vardy, Burbury, Motlop, the list goes on. You could even add Selwood to the list, I know he is a champion but still only 24

Actually looking at the stats Motlop and Cyril are almost identical this year, Motlop averages 19.3 touches and 1.6 goals to Cyril's 19.4 and 2.4(from 15.7, 1.7 last year).
Cyril is a year and plenty of experience older than Motlop aswell.

If you compare games you can look at Cyril's 2008 (25 games) where he averaged 13.8 touches and a bit under 1 goal a game.

Not a bad start and I dare say by the time Motlop hits 100 games he will be statistically better than cyril.

We seem to have mixed a fantastic cocktail of talent , character , versatility and attitude with respect to our youth.
Add that to the development program , VFL exposure and training with the big boys to learn the Geelong Way and you have a blueprint for success.
You always rate your own youth above the opposition but as last season showed - we kept them all - we were entitled to do that.
Some will have to go at seasons end to make way for draft picks so competition will be fierce , just what you need to avoid complacency and ensure everyone is busting their balls every week.
Well done Cats !!

Motlop has so much upside I don't know where it ends. I'm not looking up the stats but maybe its somewhere in the forward 50 marking stratosphere though, i don't remember him taking as many marks there as cyril who i remember taking a fair few, usually spectacular, usually at annoying and inconvenient times having just dragged his team to the line to seize a win. having said that, its feels like i see a lot more of motlop then cyril when mots is on song. can't wait to see how motlop will look with cyrils experience.

I'll add Bews and Stringer and Cowan and even Hamling just for kicks too, 2 of them are highly rated, one of them has bulked up a fair bit - And is a Bews.

Normally I'd start to get excited only when the young ones started doing something like "steadying the ship", but on last years trade radio there was always reference to just how good our young kids are, especially our rookies. External plaudits - i think we can get a little excited :P

He has really progressed this season. Scarlett raved about his recovery ability after a speed burst and you can see that as whilst he might blow a bit he seems ready to go again very quickly. So many passages of play he starts well down the field and ends up well into forward 50 either with the ball or as an option - gut running at its' finest
So impressed with his ability to carry and link from half back / wing and how he just breaks the play open with his speed and dare.
Looks to be getting around 4-5 shots on goal per game , reckon his return will improve dramatically ( conversion) once he gains more experience and poise. A return of 40-50 goals in a season is not beyond him in his current role. That's bloody impressive for a non permanent forward.
So much to like about him and our other kids.

Ken Judge -had an article in yesterdays West Australian football lift out about Geelongs (prolonged success)

Headline of Article " Cats Mine Hidden Gems "

Quote -"Wells has found talent in Billie Smedts (pick15) Jackson Thurlow (16) Cameron Guthrie (23) Mitch Duncan (28) George Horlin-Smith (37) Allen Christensen (40) and Jordan Schroder (54) . Steven Motlop is NOW A GUN , but was once a 3rd round pick(in 2008) and the 39th player taken overall."
