While it hurts now, in the long run it will be good. IMO we have overachieved with the players we have in our squad...the only reason why we won the premiership was because we slowed the game down so much that their wasn;t enough time for the opposition to put more points against us...
we need this lost to remind the coaching staff that we need a better squad...we have youngsters that lack composure and foot skills.
Pies on the contrary have good youngster in abundance and have a bright future.

we on the other hand, have a bleak future.

What do you want? Are you saying you want us to finish bottom now for two years in order to pick up a Thomas or Pendlebery as Collingwood did after playing in two Grand Finals. Most of Collingwoods new up & coming players consist of early draft picks as 'reward' for mediocrity in those years after those two GFs.

Hey, guess what? We at least won one of those things & missed out by a point in the other & have played in finals for every year since Rodney Eade took over bar one or two.

That's 10 years out of 12 years in the finals for 3 GFs & 1 Premiership!!
That's a 25% strike rate for GFs.

How many for Collingwood in that time? How many bottom 4 finishes for them in that time.

My friend, we have been victims of our own success.
And we are not out stuffed for next year as many would like to think.
We lost 2 games by a point & drew another. That would have put us in 2nd place with our superior %.
All this 'overachievement' got us to this point????

Please people ............................go & follow another club because that's all some people deserve.

May I suggest the Doggies! Great bunch of young (early drafts) kids. Or the Saints. 40 - 60 % of their team are top ten draft picks because they hadn't left the bottom few positions of the ladder for ages before they finally started playing finals again. And all this young talent but still couldn't make the cut this year.
Carlton will be the new St Kilda. Year after year of mediocrity will give them all this talent on their list, but it won't get them anywhere.

Even West Coast did a stint down the bottom for a few years.
The worst we have finished was 12 once & 9th or 10th the other time we missed the finals.
Let me remind everyone NOW that we DID have injuries through the last two years but the guys were able to carry them. LRT played the last six weeks last year with a stress fracture in his foot which has kept him out all year this year. How is that fortunate. No Crouch last year or most of this year. He was one of our better players tonight. May I remind everyone that he also was player of the final series in 2005!

So if all you spoilt Swans supporters want to keep bagging these guys that gave us another little sniff just before half time tonight, nick off & leave us loyal supporters alone because I've had enough of listening to it. Perhaps find a Bulldog, Freo or St Kilda supporter to befriend so you can all winge together about how hard it's been.

Give Collingwood a BIG PAT on the back for finishing bottom for a few years after playing in two GFs. That's not overachieving is it!!

Good night to you all!!

Good night to you all!!

mate, i think any passionate swans supporter would be entitled to be disappointed with that performance. if a 'supporter' was indifferent you can hardly call him passionate.

Disappointed is one thing. I am disappointed with tonights game. I was disappointed with our draw against the Lions & our two 1 point losses.

But to say we have overachieved is just a nonsense comment made by supporters of Victorian clubs & 'expert' commentators for the last few years but now some Swans supporters have been sucked into the thinking.

You can't make 1 GF if you are an overachiever, let alone 2.

Here just some of our star & very talented players that will play on next year for sure.

Barry Hall (fit)
Malceski( a great year under his belt)
O'keefe (niggle free)
Ablett (niggle free)
LRT (injury free & pre season)
Fosdike
Kirk (a great year this year)
Goodes (the name says it all)
Craig Bolton (All Aust perhaps again)
Buchanan
Schneider
Davis (Match winner on his day)
Jude Bolton ( warrior that gets hit week in week out)
Jolly ( if he stays & doesn't underestimate his opposition)
Leo Barry (if he stops playing undersized & stops taking them on)
McVeigh ( despite what everyone thinks)
Barlow (looks exciting prospect)
Kennelly (how could we forget a fit Kennelly)
Now tell me how these guys are going to toss it in next year.

And now for the players that COULD call it a day in the next 2 years.

Ben Matthews
Micky O
Spider
Crouch
Doyle

And now for players that will battle to hold their spot or to get another chance. Perhaps traded.

Dempster
Bevan
Moore
Jack
Vogels

And now for players that will be given a regular go next year.

Laidlaw (looked the goods against Geelong)
Schmidt (one of the better kicks in the team)
Grundy (power forward)
Thornton (promising)
White (promising)

The GLUE that will bind them all together.

PAUL ROOS!!

The only bloke that could deliver me a premiership in my time as a loyal Swans supporter!!

So Chin up! It ain't as bad as you think. Sure......some will have to pay for their poor performances but that goes for every club!
Cheers!:)

Most of Collingwoods new up & coming players consist of early draft picks as 'reward' for mediocrity in those years after those two GFs.

Most?

Lets see...Harry O'Brein - rookie draft, Marty Clark - rookie draft, Tyson Goldsack - 5th round draft selection pick 63, Travis Cloke 3rd round F/S draft selection pick #43, Heath Shaw 3rd round F/S draft selection pick #48. Sean Rusling 2nd round pick #23

Last I looked 6 out of 8 could not be accurately described as most. Clearly your argument is a load of bollocks.

thats what you get when youve played the 2nd most finals in the last 7 years or so. we need draft picks, as before said, we have done extremely well with the players we have maganed to get, we need players of the calibre of thomas, selwood, judd etc in the higher picks.

i'll like to apologise for tarnishing our premierships year...it was a stupid thing to say...

but what the game against collingwood showed us is that we clearly need a big defender...our defenders are always fighting above their division...

So true!

But youll find that it was the errors of our 'nimble footed' defenders that cost us last night. I counted 7 or 8 goals scored from errors after kicking out from a Magpie behind. The Magpies have worked us out when we kick in. They have a zone defence that stifles our kickins if we are not accurate. You saw what I saw tonight. We couldn't hit a target in defence & dropped sitters. Even poor old Craig Bolton dropped a sitter. They looked buggered tonight after a hard year & long campaign.

Have a look at West Coast. They aren't exactly travelling too flash.
Both the Swans, West Coast & Adelaide have had the biggest campaigns over the last three years, playing deep into the finals & starting later then most.
Hell....the Hawks, Magpies, Geelong, Kangas & Port haven't had anywhere near the tough seasons that we have had. More physical games in finals. Lets see if they can achieve what our wonderful side has achieved.

I'm guessing Roos will have a different game plan next year.
But who cares..............................he's delivered us what we wanted . A PREMIERSHIP after 72 years, & some belief that there could be more.

I'm happy with that alone.
Cheers.:thumbsu:
