as opposed to underachievers...
those players who were drafted low, backups, journeymen etc that have played well and above expectations...

so far this season the standouts would be:

gilbert arenas
bobby jackson
michael redd

I don't really believe that anyone can overachieve, but anyway, here's a few guys who have exceeded the expectations of those in the know.

Ben Wallace : Never drafted, given the boot from both Washington and Orlando. (Wouldn't both clubs give their proverbial left nut to have Big Ben in the middle)

David Wesley : Never drafted, played in the CBA, yet has become a damn solid NBA veteran.

Popeye Jones : Second round draft pick who had to go to Italy to prove himself worthy of a spot on an NBA roster. 10 years later he averages 7 and 7 over 500 odd games.

John Stockton : Came from a smallish school, got drafted late (16), was always considered slow, unable to shoot etc., and then there was those tight shorts.

Now, in 2002, this unfashionable kid has 15000 assists over 1400 games.

Ira Newble: Bounced arounda few leagues, played a season for San Antonio, mostly on the IR or riding the bench and played limited minutes for the season due to defieciencies to his game. Worked on his abilites and got signed by the Hawks midway through last year (I think) and is now a regular contributor.

Good luck to the guy!

Seems Danny Fortson may've been a 3-season wonder (favoured behind Troy Murphy!).

Murphy is a solid second year player but Fortson can bitchslap him for rebounds. Trade Fortson, he could really help a team that struggles on the glass.

Orlando. You were trying trade my man Mike Miller...but Jamison would be a fairer trade.:D
