i'm an undergrad student and thinking of going further later on, my dad is warning me that being overqualified is as bad as being underqualified. Anyone ever had any expirience of this?

No offense but your dad doesn't have a clue.

Unless of course he means by studying for a long time, required to go further of course, you will not get the working oppurtunities required to go straight into a job you're qualified for. if that's what he meant, then yeah, he's right.

I think being overqualified is usually in regards to actual work experience not educational achievements. When you enter the workforce you usually enter below your qualification, and work your way up.

The danger is you stay in school to long and wait to long to get your career started.

BTW Macca's don't care how many degrees you have, so I wouldn't worry too much :p

I had some experience of it recently. Just finished a post-grad degree and spent ages trying to get an entry-level job. Several employers said directly to me when I called for feedback that they didn't consider me because they believed that someone with my qualifications wouldn't remain in the position they were offering for long enough before moving up to make it worth their while.

Still, its no-where nearly as bad as being underqualified... You'll find a job eventually, and then be thankful you have the extra qualification when you look to move up
