Erm, i know everyone wants the fairytale, but i DONT rate the Dogs just yet as a flag chance. Do you honestly see them defeating a full strength Sydney or WCE? Because i dont.

yes i do i think they are great side and i love watching them play, and thats why i am getting excited about Essendon getting fast players because you watch the Doggies and they are exciting. Footy does not need its tradional Full Forward anymore and yes at the Telstra Dome there is no reason why the Doggies cannot beat Sydney or West Coast. As it was said in the media the Dogs have good depth, players like McMahon, Gilby, Aka, Johno, Darcy for height and even Will goes alright. they have plenty of good players and i believe it is there time

...when you consider we had the likes of SJ, Rooke, King, Kelly and Stokes missing...

Throw in Djerkurra and these are the blokes who should play against Footscray in particular. Conventional wisdom with pacy teams was always "hit them early and hit them hard". That was missing Sunday. It's largely been missing for a while now apart from some short bursts which are often too late.

From what I saw of the game, there was a different emphasis on movement. One of the main problems though was that in the hurry to get theball moving quick, there were a lot of long balls to the forward line. Which can be OK if you've got the forward line fairly clear, and there is heaps of blocking a la Sydney [O'loughlin - from goal square, and Hall - up ground] and WC [Lynch - from goal square, and Hansen - up ground], because you end up with a one on one contest more often than not.

We weren't getting that - we had Ottens, Nabs and Mooney all in the same vicinity, allowing the Bulldog defenders to leave their opponents and help out, or cause a big pack and spillage. This lets the ball come to ground and releases the dogs' runners. They do that part of the game better than anyone (the releasing). Also, Telstra Dome's dimensions help ensure that it's tougher to get one out contests.

If we can sort out how our forwards work together, then the style of football could end up working well. The problem with that is that there's too much of a change in the set up with Ottens moving in and out all the time. The best sides have key forwards whom stay there for most, if not all of the game.

Wise words.

Gunnar loves an argument (to put things positively), and it's questionable (at best) to quote yourself then big-note yourself, BUT, Gunnar had the perspective all along. Geelong supporters are passionate, but too quickly turn from one extreme to another.

Having said that though: See ya Gunnar.

Years of experience of supporting Geelong should tell us all not to get too far ahead of ourselves! But things are looking promising, lets hope we dispose of Melbourne comfortably and things keep going along smoothly...

Yeah - it must be a bitter pill to swallow when an opposition supporter has to remind you that your team doesn't suck as much as its own supporters think.
We're harsh critics. It makes for the occaisonal better playing. Want to try it? It also keeps our players humble.
