Not all Middle Eastern countries are evil or guilty of human rights violations to be fair.

If they are not Government backed, I don't really see an issue with any Arab Business Group owning or part owning football clubs, admittedly the Mansour Klan who own The City Football Group have been involved in some morally dubious things, still happy they own my A League Club though.
Yep good point …poor choice of words to describe the particular owner states

The prospect of a court case in January would have had an impact.

Also the deal between Saudi and Bein.

The bein deal is/was only just one of the issues that caused them to fail the fit & proper test last time.

I guess nothing some oil money changing hands behind the scenes can' change considering how quickly it happened.

Don’t get me wrong, the Saudis suck.

But the life was sucked out of Newcastle years ago. Ashley turned the club into a soulless wreck.

There have been two flashes in 15 years of trash - the 6th finish under Pardew and the Rafa time; and the latter was mostly from the Championship anyway.

I’ve been fortunate to go, to sit among tens of thousands at SJP. It was a Wednesday night, we played Coventry in the Championship and won 4-1.

But Ashley wrecking the club has ruined my passion for the PL.

This will get me back. The Saudis are awful, but if it’s a choice between awful and awful without hope, I will take the former.

A staggering statement. Mike Ashley isn't ordering the murder of journalists, public beheadings, kidnapping activists and oppressing every vulnerable group in the country. He just doesn't spend any money on your football club. To equate those two things as equal, is the biggest case of false equivalence I have ever seen in my life. Get a grip.

The hope that you speak of, is being fuelled by money coming from a regime and a man (Mohammed bin Salman) who crushes the hope of millions of people in his country. The Football Weekly Podcast interviewed a woman whose sister was kidnapped by the regime and suffered abuse in the prison system, co-ordinated twitter campaigns have already begun praising MBS as the salvation of NUFC on the three year anniversary of Jamal Khashoggi's death and many have written about the danger of NUFC being used as a vehicle for the Saudi state.

I sympathise with fans who have had a terrible owner for many years, and now have no control over who is taking over their club. I have no doubt that every single PL fan base would act in similar ways should the PIF have chosen to takeover their club - but ultimately they chose Newcastle. Thus, the choice is up to each individual NUFC fan now as to whether they continue to support the club, and by extension the Saudi regime or they don't. In the end, it's a question of morals and individual values. But don't pretend like Ashley turning the club into a soulless wreck is anyway comparable to the soullessness of having your club bankrolled by villainous regime like the Saudi royal family.

You’re assuming there’s an ethical billionaire. Yes, the Saudis are worse. But the Qataris are using slaves, the owner of Chelsea isn’t allowed to enter the UK, the Wolves owners conduct positive reputation diplomacy for China and the owners of Leicester have been involved in the coups in Thailand.

Yes, the Saudis are worse, but we are not talking orders of magnitude worse.

And as for Newcastle fans, we have watched the club be slaughtered over the last decade, so can you blame us for being a bit excited even with the concerns?

What are you excited about?

Excited to sportswash the Saudi government?

Excited to spend tons of money drenched in the blood of innocent civilians?

Sounds great. Good for you.

Honestly? It’s not about the dollars at all. And I get the Saudis suck.

But I am excited to have an owner that gives a shit about the NUFC.

And for me, giving a shit isn’t about actually spending money. It’s about actually putting thought and time into the decisions being made rather than nakedly milking the club for every penny.

Like I said, I know the Saudis suck. But you’re asking me to choose between two very shit sandwiches. Ashley has been destroying the club for 15 years and using it to help fund SportsDirect at the cost of the operation of the club.

And anyone who doesn’t understand why it’s conflicting for Newcastle fans hasn’t closely seen the shit we have put up with since Ashley arrived.

You're right that there is no ethical billionaire out there. But as you say, there are orders of magnitude to this and the Saudis are by the far worst of the lot in the UK. All you're doing is engaging in whataboutism to avoid the reality that your club has been takeover by one of the worst/villainous men in the world. There are also other problematic owners in the PL (you've identified some of them in your post) and I wish that they didn't own football clubs either. Right now the focus is on Newcastle, because it's the most recent example and the worst example of sportswashing.

As for blaming fans, again it's a moral question. Would you accept a new house bought by the Saudi regime? Would you feel excited about that?

Also apparently Newcastle are now the richest club in the world and not only are they the richest club in the world, they have more money than the the rest of the top 10 combined.

That's a lot of blood money. Like... a lot.

If it's not about the money then you should be horrified. Also what in god's name makes you think your owner gives a shit about Newcastle? Do you think MBS has been a Newcastle fan since he was a small child and wakes up early in the morning to watch all the Newcastle games?

Your club is being used by an incredibly evil man, he's sportswashing to earn acceptance across the globe. He couldnt give a flying **** about Newcastle, but he will throw untold money at the problem to help his image.

Not really two shit sandwiches either. One is probably a boring cheese sandwich that has been left out a little too long and the other sandwich is full of rape, womens rights, humans rights atrocities, murder and war.

I'd take the cheese sandwich mate.

I feel for you though. It's out of your hands. I'd be horrified if he took over at Liverpool. John Henry is a bit of a dick but when I look at other owners of club, im actually thankful we have him.

I get the idea of wanting excitement and hope back, my club is very much the same and is also close to a takeover being completed. But there's got to be levels to what you want from an owner.. Our prospective new owner sounds like he wants to do a mini-Wolves and bring across some Turkish players to grow their profile over here, get us to the PL, and then flip the club. No issues with that from my end and a more relatable/understandable motivation for wanting to buy the club.

The choice is between an owner who has still pumped millions into the club and has it in the PL when many other clubs are struggling for their existence v having a bunch of vile pieces of crap own the club.

The choice really isn't that difficult.

Mike Ashley, the bloke who 'doesn't care' about Newcastle, forked out 35m last summer on Wilson and Lewis. A few years before that, 85m on Almiron, Joelinton and ASM combined.

I wish I had an owner who cared so little for Hull that he did that.

You’re saying it like you’re expecting fans to jump ship.

There’s no reward for the fans in this, especially Geordies. If they stick to supporting the club, they’re complicit in sports washing. If they don’t, they lose out on a community experience and spirit of a club that people know is embedded in both the physical heart and the culture of Newcastle.

Everyone is going to take this differently but it’s a shit scenario, but blaming NUFC fans rather than the PL or the UK Government is pretty stupid.

The more you read the bullshit being posted about how Newcastle fans have had it so hard and that they deserve success the more you realise we've been overlooking what an entitled fan base they truly have.
