Has anyone seen these Oxfam workers that stand in the middle of the city at seemingly every street corner.... what the hell is it with these idiots ... I swear if I have another one of them come up to me begging me to give money to some starving kid in Africa I am going to give him a swift one to the chin.

I have no problem giving as I sponsor a kid through Worldvision.... but honestly these guys don't come across as charity workers at all......... but more like Telemarketer/Salesmen trying to get you in signed up so they can make a quick buck. They are almost overbearing and give me the ********s. Do you reckon these guys are making a tidy little profit from the so called "donations" we make? They act like they are all on a commission. I'd love to know if they are on a commission and what percentage it is.... Has anyone come across them or is this just a Perth thing?

It's rife in Adelaide too. Though we seem to get a lot of Greenpeace people.

One from "Save the Children", held my friend "hostage" the other day while she was running late for her bus (this being the last bus of the day she could catch)...he started yelling at her to "forget the bus, it's trivial, being a saint and an angel is better".

I saw it and called her mobile to help her escape.

I'd like to know how many people they actually get to sign up!

I will only donate to Salvation Army on the street. They also happen to be one of the least demanding collectors.

Yeah, I can't get past that lady without making a contribution. Helpless old lady is a brilliant ploy when it comes to extracting donations out of people.

There was this HOT HOT HOT english oxfam

so I signed, I have til january 10th to cancel it, 20 bucks a month

Oxfam are counting on my laziness

I have done some work for Oxfam,Community Aid Abroad in Australia,And NO they arent on Commissions.Nor are those who collect for WWF.Just committed to the organistion they work for,and remember they are volunteers, you see in the street.

And unlike those who work for centrestink, arent useless bureaucrats.
Centrelink may have its faults but I think you'll find one of the most inefficient organisations on earth is Greenpeace.

I find it exteremely hard to believe they are not on a commission judging by the way they act. The Oxfam guys don't come across to me like the Greenpeace hippy dolebludgers you see in the city... who obviously believe in the cause by the way they dress and the lack of deodarant they wear.... by the Oxfam guys look more like uni students with parttime jobs. I think the fact they are so pushy stops people like me donating because you get the feeling they are more like a used car salesman than a volunteer worker.

I think i see the point, and you're right quite a lot of Oxfam/CAA volunteers are uni students with part-time jobs.Greenpeace vols are mainly unemployed ,but that doesnt excuse their BO.

Definitely on a commission.

I was one of those annoying cretins a few summers ago. Did it for a few weeks before feeling guilty for pestering people and quiting. You make good money though. Starts out at $40 per sale and some of the more senior people make over $50 per sale and do a fair few every day.

Good job for tourists. Most of the people working with me were english backpackers.
