Even with next week being the 'Dream Time' game, Ryder doesn't need to play next week. I know he will be a good player for us but it's just at the moment when he plays, we are playing one man short.
When you include Solomon, Welsh and Mark Johnson that's 4 down. Alway's tough to win playing 4 short.

But I'm looking forward to the Richmond clash. Can hardly wait to see the amazing skills these two silky smooth sides will put on. Should be a great advertisment for the AFL.

Tristian didn't play VFL last week, had the flu.
Then got injured in the first quarter last this week.

Not good signs. Shame, I reckon he has the raw ingredients to make it.

I'd give Paddy another game this week. I know it sounds funny given he only had two disposals, but there were several times he ran forward and he was rewarded. I think he is slowly starting to know when and where to go.

I reckon they'll play Laycock as well this week.

IN: Laycock OUT: Ryder imo

Hille, Laycock and Ryder ? Sounds one too many but it could work. Ryder in the ruck would allow Hille and Laycock in the F50 at the same time. Put MJ and Monfries (maybe Lovett too) at their feet with Lucas and Hird as the leading targets from about 30-80m out and that could really stretch Richmond.

Hopefully Laycock can play out the rest of the season injury free, he really needs it for his development.

At least we don't have to contend with Everitt in the ruck this week.

Sounds about close to what I've been preaching. MJ going could be good for him, he hasn't stamped himself on any matches yet, a full stint in the F50 might be what he needs to set himself on fire.

the more i see ryder the more i think he has no idea, should not be playing seniors and i think his selection cost us yesterdays game. all he does is stand there, everitt was thinking all his christmas's were coming at once. Poor hille will run himself into the ground.

ryder should be in the magoos and when form warrants it then he can earn his stripes for the seniors, it will be better for him and for us. Why does he earn his spot ahead of someone like cartledge, lonergan or lucy????

Bolton played well yesterday.

He played a decent half by his low low standards. His 2nd half was poor. Its a long stretch to say he played well.

He is a very frequent non-contributor when in the side.

Bingo!

Play all 3 IMO.

I would have liked to have seen Ryder get a decent go sitting in the goal square in recent weeks...........we have lacked a target undoubtedly but am bemused as to why he has had only a couple of 5 minutes spells there. OK it may not work but FFS give him a decent go. Let him develop another string to his bow as a marking target.

Even try Laycock down on the forward line at the same time as Paddy. The Tigers have got no decent tall defenders at all. We desperately lack a player that our midfield can feel confident in kicking the ball to as a marking forward target at the moment.

Hille as usual does the bulk of the ruck but rotates up forward with the other 2 instead of off the bench.

Play Jim, Gus, Rio, & MJ at their feet.
Sounds a bit left-field i know but FFS give it a try.

Either way i would like to see Paddy still in the side but at least given a decent opportunity up forward.

Couldn't agree more. Add Bolton to that list and we're playing 5 short.

Hodge, Mitchell, Croad, Williams? I think it was even. Williams did nothing until that goal and the rest did nothing all day.

Since Laycock played for Bendigo last week, that hopefully will be enough of a run to bring him back in.
Ryder definitly needs a season or two with Bendigo to learn the game. Whole games in the ruck for Bendigo will do more for his development than playing 10-15 minutes in the seniors, particularly now that he has had a taste.
The writing is on the wall for Cartledge, I would have given him a go back in round 2 or 3.

Every time I see Paddy play I get the urge to jab him with a cattle prod. I know some guys come across as lackadaisical but he is on another level so much so that i reckon if he relaxed any more he'd drift into a coma.

Don't know if he's relaxed marcuz.
He always looks really nervous to me - like he's afraid of making a mistake.

Once he realises he belongs at this level, I think we will see a real player start to emerge.

Stick with this kid - he will be absolute gold for us in the years to come.

We may as well play him and most of the other kids...drop some of the underdone players like Solly n JJ, give players like Rioli and Bolts some VFL time to remind them of the application needed to make it.
Play the kids and develop them....lets face it, we'll be lucky to win 5 games this season so a top priority draft pick will inject some class into the club.
We're about on par with the Tigers n Carlton at the moment. And it pains me to admit that the Hawks look better than we do at the minute.

IF the whole team played good enough to win well... then it would not of come down to ONE kick.... so yeah

All wrong. We should not be playing Ryder because despite any education he is getting about what it takes to play AFL he is simply not ready. Rioli is probably fit for less than half the season, but when he gets on the park he more often than not just creates goals for the side with touches of pure class so why waste a game where he is fit on the VFL ? and finally to suggest that we should play for draft picks is bordering on sacrelige.

i agree akron... this club has wayyy to much pride and power to play for draft picks.. and ppl open those eyes of yours... its only been 5 rounds... 17!!! rounds to go... :D:D:D:D anything could happen from here... even collingwood could miss the finals :p

Thats all well and true to suggest its poor form to be playing for draft picks but our 'class' youngsters are far n few between. Meanwhile, Cooney, Griffen, Murphy and Deledio are maturing very nicely while we rely on the same veterans week in, week out to get us over the line. Against the Swans, if Lloydy hadnt played a stellar game....we wouldve been chewed up n spat out by Hall alone. Our disposal and strategies are not up to speed and thank heavens Fletcher is fit n firing or we'd be lucky to win 3.

Sure, we played admirably against Brissy but they arent exactly top quality opposition at the moment. and we STILL look spent after 3 quarter time. Lets see what Dyson, Winderlich, Reynolds, Nash, Slatterly and co. can do before we really get left behind by this ever increasingly fast game or we can continue to be content with 6th-8th place as our pinnacle year in, year out!!

Stanton, Dyson and Monfries are as classy as most other teams would have, bar the tanking Hawks and Saints, and we didn't need top 3 picks to get them.

They are all very high draft picks that we don't get very often, and we don't just rely on veterans, we are trying to blend our veterans with youth. We have a good mix, just been very unlucky to lose games of late.

We were shocking against Brisbane, should have one that one.

Apart from Reynolds they are all getting a fair share, Nash is not all that flash IMO. We are a youngish side and have drafted well, we are just starting to pay the price for our poor drafting from 99-01. No need to throw all our youngsters in the lions den all at once and lose all hope in Welshy, Solly, MJ and co. Then we will be tanking games which is something EFC doesn't do, Solly and Welshy haven't set the world on fire but they are improving and I believe it won't be too long till they're back to there old selves.
