Yeah crazy prices but a lot of people really don't want to do so I guess they can charge that. We were always going to do it ourselves but we're curious how much we'd be saving if we did it ourselves.
Did pretty much all of it before we moved in apart from one of the spare rooms which was fine because there was no rush to unpack anything into that room.

It's not really crazy prices when you actually think about what is involved. For starters the painter needs to go and inspect the job normally after work hours so in his own time, then he'll need to sit down and work out measurements, material costs etc. Generally this is also done after work hours and can take a couple of hours. So already he's spent time and money ( driving out to the job to inspect ) for a job he may not even get.

I think it's poor form that you also went and got 3 painters quotes when you were always going to do the job yourself. Basically you wasted 3 guys time which they could've used to actually go and quote jobs that they're a chance of winning just so you could get an idea of what sort of money you were going to save by doing it yourself

Why are they crazy prices? 8k to paint a full house, inclusive of paint is OK, especially if there is a bit involved.

How much would you expect a new 3 bedroom weatherboard house inside and out to be?

You might be in for a shock.

Never got any of them to come to the property. Literally just showed the plans to two of them (they were painting the other houses in our street) and when I asked them I said I was going to DIY but was just curious of a rough cost that's all and they were happy to help, even gave us some advice which was good. I think it only seems crazy because being my first house it's the first time I've paid for each of these things therefore had no idea how much they might cost, obviously I do now.
Alot of people were telling me that the cost was put up because no one wants to do it themselves (obviously they were wrong in hindsight).

Yeah fair enough mate and I probably sounded a bit ruder than I intended with my previous reply. It may seem expensive but it's money well spent if done right. Being a painter myself, I get a tad annoyed at times when people think painting is something that anyone can do and that they can't believe you have to do an apprenticeship in it. ( not talking about you here ) I agree that the actual painting ie- brushing rolling etc is something that most people could do but the biggest difference between a DIY and a professional is the amount of preparation time a professional will put in before the painting begins.

$130k profit seems to suggest otherwise.

the General populations standards in what they think is good quality is hideously low, I'm not having a go at you, but your generalisations are laughable.
