I thought he did a great job on Luke Power and covered an extraordinary amount of ground tonight. Yes his disposal was off again but he really put in and stopped one of Brisbanes top players. His inside work when he was in the middle was also good. Added another string to his bow tonight.:thumbsu:

Temporarily maybe, to build his confidence, but at full stride he is too good a player to waste tagging an opposition player.

Absolutely loved the last Q when he sold some candy and ran around a couple to set Keps up. Closest thing he's done to 2008 since he did his knee! Please let him stay in the midfield Harves!

Yeah liked his game. Took it on and looked to want it at every possession, great job keeping Power out of the game.

Surprise, Surprise he finally gets a go in the middle and does well. Who would have thought he was a midfielder:rolleyes:

I have not been a palmer fan. If Harvey was waiting for him to start doing the team things and improve his defensive work then maybe this is the game that may make him a regular mid field player.

I dont think he should be a regular tagger but he has to be prepared to do a team job when it is required.

Hopefully we start to see him play a significant role for the rest of the season .

It was great seeing Palmer in the middle and Pav taking contested marks up forward. A lot of people have been craving this all year

I was watching him taking shots at goal before the game started.
Every shot went straight through the middle, while other players were spraying them all over the place. So I was a bit disappointed to see him start spraying them during the game. Maybe his confidence drops when the pressure goes up, I don't know.

That's what impressed me too. I really wish he nailed those goals, would have boosted his confidence massively.

He played well, I was pretty impressed, was good to see him in the middle, although it was mainly early that he was in the middle, didn't notice him starting in the middle much after half time.

Palmer was great.. until he went to kick.

Same thing could be said about Fyfe.
Palmer did shank a few, but also hit the target on a number of other occasions. His shimmy to set up the shot on goal for Bradley was vintage Palmer. If he can keep playing like that, with Barlow and possibly Mundy around him, we will have a much more dangerous midfield.

good move to give Palmer a job to do. A few times last night was the first time since his knee that he took the game on.
His lack of confidence nearly makes me cry.
A specified role will give him confidence and his kicking will click. He was a good kick as a junior.
I am not ready to give up on him

Major glimpses of 2008 Rhys last night. Sad that it coincided with the article suggesting(again) that he's gone to gws. In that form he'd be a major piece of our future midfield.

Everyone complains about his disposal because it is an easy thing for a keyboard warrior to do. We know he is shockingly low on confidence, so seeing him dodge and weave last night made me think he is on his way back...

Know one complains about Fyfe's bad disposal (I am not complaining, merely using it as a comparison)...

Freo needs Palmer firing

Our taggers played like champions last night. De Boer shut down Black. Palmer did pretty well on Power as well, I can barely recall Luke Power getting too much of the ball.

Palmer's much more suited to running a game out. Not a good enough kick, nor decision maker, to run around on his own.

Nailed it. He was a great tagger last night but we are starting to rack up taggers (Pig, Crowl's, JVB). Note Power is not the weapon he was 3 years ago.

If he could just f'n kick he would be an A grader with potential to become elite.

How do we see him playing this week? I haven't watched much of GC so not sure now their midfield structures look. I know they have Ablett and Swallow, I would think that Crowley would get first crack at Ablett (despite his average year seems to match up well on him).
Power was a good fit for Palmer, in the sense that they are similar players. Would He go to Swallow this week or is there someone more appropriate?

This. In 2008 when he was up and running, yes his ball winning ability and gut running were his main assets, but what was a bit undersold was his creativity, his ability to get others involved in the play.

I loved that bit of play last night and it reall deserved the goal.

Was getting so annoyed at these old gezers behind me who jeered him everytime he got the ball, I think many of oursupporters have turned on him ala guys like Peake/Johnson etc.

rischitelli

rischitelli

Certainly a potentially dangerous player. If he was kept quite like power, that would be good. Especially if Palmer hurts them the other way like he almost did last night. Kick those goals he missed and he becomes a real headache.
Could Rischitelli go forward to break the tag and would Palmer be comfortable there? I get the feeling Rischitelli would be more dangerous when thrown forward than Power.
